View Full Version : (MAME) GXMAME Acade Machine Emulator
I installed GXMAME on Ubuntu 7.04, downloaded "Killer Instinct 2 (v1.4)" and don't know how to get the game working. It has lots of "u" files i.e. u98, u10, u11 and so on.
Any ideas?
u have to keep the file zipped first of all. second, u need a bios for that game I believe... it runs on a specific hardware and i'm not even sure if mame has the decryption built in or you need to decrypt that rom yourself....
http://caesar.logiqx.com/php/emulator_game.php?id=mame&game=kinst2
that should give you some info on the game.
from what I understand, you need the .chd file for killer instinct. that's damn hard to find and it's quite big too. so get the .chd file, make a directory in the mame rom folder named kinst2, put the chd file in there, but leave the killer instinct zip file in the regular rom folder.
then u should be able to play.
any game out there which is easier to get working?
any game out there which is easier to get working?
yeah, basically anything that's old school, or cp1 or 2, or neo-geo.
here's a list of all hard disc required games, or games that's "difficult" to get working:

i would say, play the 2D capcom games...they are always fun and easy to get working AND look great.

MAME is cool. I've been playing a version of Final Burn on my phone. It runs most CPS1 CPS2 + Neo Geo arcade games perfectly.
Quality playing Streetfighter Alpha 3 on it :D

My fellow thread Hi-Jacker,
Search engines have 'spiders' that crawl through web pages to index them for your searches. The better SEO (search engine optimized) your site is, the better it's indexed and searches relivant to your site will be better.
I'm now a proper nerd
aaahhh i see, thanks for the SEO translation too akhi because im basically IT illiterate ( being a computer nerd is much more useful  )

Streetfighter 3 uses a different arcade board to the CPS1 and CPS2 ones.
What emulator on what machine are you using?

all the Capcom Play System (CPS) 2 games that's known to work is found here:
http://www.cps2shock.com
There's also some links to emulators that support the latest (decrypted) games.
As for Street Fighter 3, it is not decrypted and I doubt it will. The reason for that is because the board is totally different and the format is totally different. Street Fighter 3 uses CD format where as CPS2 games all used Carts. You can read up on it on cps2shock.
But you can pick any game like the following and it'll work:
Street Fighter Alpha 1, 2 , 3
X-Men Children of the Atom
Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter
X-Men Vs Street Fighter
Marvel vs Capcom
Street Fighter 1, 2 (these are cps1 games, you can tell by the graphics)
Then you have all the NeoGeo games which are just phenomenal.
Check out what's good and bad at http://www.neogeoforlife.com
As for the roms, you know where to get em.
I wonder if there's a kaillera supported emulator out there for linux. then we could have a match online :)

wa iyyaka,
I dont have gxmame or xmame installed, but i remember back on the windows side, the mame32 frontend (which is what gxmame is) didn't configure anything crucial. in order to map the keyboard, you'd press TAB while playing the game, and then you set up the keys individually for each game. So try that, you should get a black dialog inside the game, tha tlets you change button configuration and dipswitches.

I tried MAME on Linux (Ubuntu) and the graphics are rubbish compared to the Windows MAME unfortunately.

i never tried it on windows. :nerdbro: i don't even have windows anymore...
i am trying to get kawaks to work under wine. but this damn radeon 7500 mobility card sucks... i can't even switch color depth, and kawaks not starting up because I need either 16 bit or 32 bit (and i'm stuck at 24bit) :(

when i had windows xp, i got ki2 working on the u64 emulator. the ki2 had a largish iso or img file, can't remember. is it possible to convert that image file to a chd file then run it under mame? as I have still got that image file somewhere.

...hmm...well i don't have or never really got ki2 or ki1 for that matter to run (never bothered to get them huge files). but i investigated u64emu yesterday, and I remember seeing a unix port called x64emu. you can try that.. https://sourceforge.net/projects/x64emu/
i didn't bother trying it myself, but u can check it out since you have files to test it with...
i dont know howto convert an iso or img to chd. but if i remember correctly, chd is just a file format, same thing with iso, so i wonder if it it's possible since there's a way to turn a CHD to IMG/ISO ( http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=92698 ). Personally I couldn't find any links, sorry bro.
by the way, did you try SDLMame? I hear it's much more updated than XMame. Then there's AdvanceMame which looks better...
http://rbelmont.mameworld.info/?page_id=163 -- sdlmame
http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/ --advancemame
check the sdlmame page for GUI Frontends if you can't use GXMame (though you should be able to in theory)

wa iyyaka,
lol i don't know how to compile much myself. actually I do in a way, but i had always avoided doing so because you run into dependency problems. though rashid786 would probably be able to help you in compiling.
as i last remember, you have to do a series of steps, first being config, make, and then install. but again, brother rashid can tell you properly, so i'd wait for him if i were u.
i remember a while back reading about some apt-get feature where you can compile things from sourcecode, and apt-get will install the necessary dependency on the fly so u don't run into dependency-hell... but i'm a total linux wimp, sorry :o

gonna have to learn about this "compiling stuff" one day, apparently it's useful... :nerdbro:
