Does any 1 own 1 and what are the pro and cons ?
Does any 1 own 1 and what are the pro and cons ?
i don't own one, but i'm studying IS (which includes e-business).
one of the biggest pro's is that with e-business there's no such thing as "location, location, location". Rather everyone's on the same playing field. Marketing is one of the biggest components of e-business. for that reason, managers often choose between having a independent start up, or making an extension to a already established organization. One example of this is Amazon.com vs BarnesAndNoble.com vs CircuitCity.com.
Here we have Amazon.com which is a entirely independent company which has no relation to any established company. It is free to do anything it wishes, but Amazon.com had alot of marketing and great performance to do in order to build up their rep (more rep = more customers = high earning potential).
BarnesAndNoble.com is a different case. It is an independent organization which does not have any real connection to the barnes and noble stores here in U.S but it does benefit from the barnes and noble namebrand. by having it independent from the stores, BarnesAndNoble.com was able to garner a lot of funds from Venture Capitalists.
CircuitCity.com is a totally different case. Here you have a solid company with a solid e-business portal. Both the web portal and the instore systems are tied together, so they act cooperatively. You can order something from the site and pick it up from the store. This has worked amazingly well for CircuitCity and both divisions benefit (more online purchases = more people getting familiar with namebrad = more likely people go inside stores = more people buying online from their stores when at home).
one of the worst con's in e-business is that you have to know your systems. you have to know how to use the technology. and really, it's more management than technical aspects. So be a good manager, that's the rule to any business, whether e-business or regular bricks and mortar.

thanks, but there's so much more on this matter.
if you're interested, you could read up more on this stuff. but like i stressed earlier, it's all about management at the end.

sorry I was just being general when I meant "read up". you can read up any business management book. if you've never read a management book before, i'd recommend essentials to contemporary management:
http://www.amazon.com/Essentials-Contemporary-Management-Student-CD-ROM/dp/0072874236
i've read that book from front to back, and i'll tell you, every chapter is just amazing. that should get touching the very basics of management as a starting point. you can then moveonto MBA books like "Strategic Management and Business Policy" or "Management" by Robbins and Coulter. and then move onto IS and Management Information Systems books like "Introduction to Information Systems" and "Management Information Systems", "Management Information Systems for the Information Age"...
there's plenty more, but those would more than be enough to get you started.
here's some links for em:
