I need to know some of the options available for transportation.
I will be arriving in Jeddah at the Saudi Airline Terminal. I will be with my wife and two kids and six suitcases. I am not travelling with a group / package.

Is there luggage storage facility available at the airport ?

Thanks,
Yousuf

Asalaamu alaykum. There are many taxis/private cars at the airport, usually big American cars. It should cost you no more than 150 Saudi Riyals to get to your hotel in Makkah. A 4 by 4 may be a little more expensive. You could also hire a car from the airport and try to negotiate dropping the car off at their office in Makkah. May Allah make it easy for you.

Your best bet is to get a private car and ask them to drop you off to Makkah Mukarramah. 150 sounds reasonable - but dont go over 200 - thats a blatant con.

The other thing is that as far as Im aware - there are no coaches from the saudi airlines airport in jeddah to Makkah Mukarramah. For that you'd have to get a taxi to downtown Jeddah for about 60 riyals and from there you can go on either the official SAPTCO coaches or the cheaper ones - but as you are a family it will work out cheaper and more comfortable for you to just get a taxi to the Haram from the airport rather than go by coach.

They are pre-booked. Last time I went I got taxi into Jeddah and then went Madinah Munawwarah from there. That was a LOOONNGGG night - but loved it.

I got on one of the unofficial coaches. Looked packed and driver goes they just about to go. I ran on - thinking how lucky I was to get on :D

Opened up my food and started giving out aloo paratha to the people around me but they wouldnt take - looked shifty for some reason.

Turns out half the people on the coach weren't even going to Madinah Munawwarah - they just sitting there to fill up coach so other passengers come on. Ended up sitting there whilst practically half the bus had to be filled :rotfl:

Loved it :D

There used to be, the Naql Al-Jamaa3ee service from the airport stopped a while back, unless it has started up again within the last few months then there isn't.

They do stop at the Saudi Terminal on the way back though.

Loved it?!! The private coach drivers are terrible, they drive really dangerously and, like you said annoy everybody while they 'fill up'.

SAPTCO any day!

I booked SAPTCO from Madinah Munawwarah to Makkah Mukarramah - alhamdulillah that was gud aswell.

But I have to say travelling in the other one was amazing aswell. I still remember how I felt when I finally reached Madinah - a lil while before Fajr. ALLAH ALLAH!!

Single travel is the way to go

saudi terminal, that the hajj terminal?

In Jeddah they have a seperate airport for the Saudi Airlines flights.

How does one get from Makkah to Medina? I checked the rates for single limo and it's quite expensive. Do buses go from makkah to medina as well? and If so how much are they? Or rather, where can I find this information out from anyway?

Bro! I think there is lot private cars you can get from Makkah Mukrah to madinah which cost I think 50-60SR, or cheaper then this. it's depend on the session some the charge less or some time more, according to the session.

anyway you can very easily from outside makah mukramah private cars or Busses what ever you feel comfortable you can treavel, & the charges will not be more then 50-60SR this days

Jazak Allah khair
Please Bro keep remember me in Duwa's ehen you went to Madina & during your Umrah

May allah make easy for you to perform Ummrah and accept it with all your duwa's hajat .(Ammen)

I would not trust the airport luggage facility even they had one.

Never trust Jeddah's Airport with anything…ever.

For starters, whilst you're at the airport, don't and I mean don't loose your temper to whatever it is they do (and they'll do something, trust me). Just let it be and nod along. As a heads up, expect some rudeness(and even that depends on where you're from  ) and don't be surprised at how long some of the procedures can take. Ask them to hurry up and you'll probably not leave until the next morning…

Secondly, getting from Jeddah's Airport to the city centre should not cost you more than 50-70 riyals. Plz note that if you're staying Jeddah/ Makkah for a while, only Airport taxis would take that much. Unless you're going from one end of the city to the other, you won't be paying that much again (trip to Makkah excluded) for any taxi.

Going to Makkah from Jeddah (around the SAPTCO coaches place) would cost you about 100-170 S.R depending on what type of vehicle. Last time I went with my family, we hired a mini-bus (big family) for 150 S.R, but we had a really nice guy so that might not be always the case. Just try to haggle as much as you can, particularly if you feel they know you're from 'out of town'…Some of them can act like vultures and will take advantage of that fact. Worst case scenario, say you're from Riyadh/Abha/any other city of the country and ask them who they're trying to play at…they will back down, apologize and laugh it off.

If you don't find anywhere to take your luggage, you can always rent one room in a standard hotel for a couple of nights to leave your stuff in. In fact, the whole journey might get a little taxing, especially since it's the beginning summer holidays (peak season for Umrah goers) so you might want to look in to some hotels in Jeddah or Makkah.

Note- Whatever negative impression you get out of the people of Jeddah and/or Makkah(and you will get one), I'd like to hereby declare that the majority are nothing like that.
