Bulldog..

A couple of questions about bulldog broadband:

1. Is it reliable and does it offer the speeds it advertises?

2. Does it throttle your bandwidth?

3. Do you need to purchase their phone package to get their broadband?

Rashid,

Is your criticism performance related or ethics related?

Abdulah,

Is sky any good? Does their connection keep disconnecting? Does it provide the speed it claims? Does it slowdown regularly? Are you able to use torrent programs on it? Do they throttle bandwidth? Do they give you the option to get a wired router? Can I use my own router?

Go for Be, 24MB completely unlimited with a free (and very good) wireless router\modem.

£24 a month unfortunately, but I think it's worth it.

I'm sure sky supports linux as well because the router/modem is ethernet based. I don't mind Ntl/virgin but it drills a cable through your wall, and although it is discreet, it would have to pass through my front wall and my middle room wall to reach my comp.

And since my line only supports 4.5 MB, any MAX broadband I get which is based on normal adsl will not reach it's full potential. So really my other choise is adsl 2 based isps, which are BE broadband, Bulldog and sky (are sky adsl2?).

What about the Sky modem? Is it possible to connect it to the phone socket with a normal RJ-11 cable rather than through wireless? I don't like wireless and I am sure wireless signals degrade or don't work at all if you close the door(?) between the moden and the transmitter. Is that correct?

Here is a copy of an email I sent to sky, please see if you can answer the questions bro because I need some answers. If anyone can answer these questions then I would be greatful.

Also, do you need to type in your login details when connecting or does it connect by itself? I prefer manually entering the login details because it improves security.

Hello,

I am enquiring about the Sky Broadband MAX package.

Are there additional charges to the £10 monthly fee?
Do I need to be a subscriber to Sky TV to get the £10 MAX package?
Is the modem ADSL 2 or normal ADSL?
Is the modem ethernet capable?
Is an option available to connect the modem to the phone socket with an RJ-11 cable rather than through wireless? I do not like wireless modems for various reason and prefer wired modems which use RJ-11 cables.
Are you able to use torrent programs on it?

lol akhi I'm not expert on sky broadband...but I found some answers for you :)

Hello,

I am enquiring about the Sky Broadband MAX package.

Are there additional charges to the £10 monthly fee?

Yep, those of TV. Minimum is £15/month

Do I need to be a subscriber to Sky TV to get the £10 MAX
package?

Yes.

Is the modem ADSL 2 or normal ADSL?

ADSL2

Is the modem ethernet capable?

If you're not going to use wireless, you can buy the non-wireless equipment from Sky

Is an option available to connect the modem to the phone socket with an RJ-11 cable rather than through wireless? I do not like wireless modems for various reason and prefer wired modems which use RJ-11 cables.

I don't get the whole RJ11 cable thing...why do you wanna use that? See this (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=11470356&postcount=58) thread

Are you able to use torrent programs on it?

See pages 8 & 9 on this (http://broadband.sky.com/TermsandConditions.pdf)

Basically, yes you can, but you can't download anything illegal. And you can't do what they consider and define as "excessive usage"

Hope that helps bro

I haven't got it yet but i hear it's good. Yes just tell them you want to use your own rotuer and they won't send one to you. The highest speed you can get is 16MB. But if your phoneline can't withstand that they'll give you a speed that your phoneline can handle.
