arrghhh the sound no longer works!!!

im gettin sooo frustrated!! i did a reboot on my computer and now the sound doesnt work!! its all connected properly. even the light on the speakers is on but i cant hear anything!! usually there would b an icon on the bottom right so u can adjust the volume but its disappeared!!!

i'm also really angry at myself cuz i managed 2 save all the stuff on ma pc except the nasheeds i have. so wen i was puttin everything bak on2 the pc, after the reboot, i couldnt find my nasheeds!! i thought i had saved them!! :( :( :(

go to control panel and click on sounds and audio devices. on the volume tab, is "mute" checked? uncheck it and check "place volume icon in the taskbar".
If this doesnt work go to your device manager by right clicking my computer icon and propterties, click hardware tab, then device manager. do you see your "sound video game controler" ? do you see any yellow question/exclamation mark on this ? if yes, try reinstalling the software / device driver for this device.
if any of this doesnt make any sense, call your computer tech support.;)

have you tried these speakers on other pc? or try different speakers on this pc? what do you see on the device manager/control panel? all normal?
