I was wondering, if there is a way to download firefox addons in the hard disk. For example, now when I select an addon, it installs directly. I want to carry these installation in a usb drive and install them to different machines whenever I want without connecting to the internet.

Is there a way to do these ?

BTY, whats the difference between addons and extentions ? Or are they the same thing ?

start > run

type "Application Data" and enter

then browse to Mozilla folder and use the search function to find the "extension" folder......this is your hostage....kidnap it to a safe place.....after you uninstall and install firefox again put the folder back in Mozilla folder

:jkk:bro Nasser for your reply.

So, what you are saying is, if I copy this folder to a usb drive and then just copy the folder to the appropriate location of the target computer, then the already installed firefox (on the target computer) can use these addons. Right ?

However, in the meantime, I've just found another way of doing it. I downloaded an addon using IE. It saved it as an .xpi file. Then all I had to do is click that file and open it using firefox and the addon was installed :)

So, I can download all the preferred addons using IE and carry these single files in my usb drive.

Use this (http://customsoftwareconsult.com/extensions/febe/febe.html). Very good...lets you save extensions, settings, preferences, bookmarks and if you want cookies passwords etc (dont recommend the latter ones though)

why don't you just put firefox in your USB and run firefox from there? there's a firefox-for-usb program, where uhave the whole app inside the USB drive. that way, no matter which computer ur on, as long as u have access to your usb drive, you can use that one version of firefox and since it'll be just that same one, whatever extensions u install will always be available. u won't lose jack...

What happened?

When you perform a backup, it saves all the things you specify/ticked so the location you specify (~/Backup/firefox-backup for me, for example). If for example you reinstall, you just install FEBE again (I copy everything from /media/backup to ~ and then type in firefox /home/rashid/Backup/firefox-backup and click on FEBE) add your backup location and click restore in the menu and everything you tick will be restored insha'Allah

You can always copy your ~/.mozilla/firefox/{profile-name}/extensions over to your new folder anyway, to restore settings...as was already suggested here but FEBE is just a nicer way of doing it :)
