:salams brothers and sisters

erm , http://forums.mpadc.com/images/smilies/redface.gif .I would like some help..http://forums.mpadc.com/images/smilies/smile.gif Insha'Allah!

basically, I'm taking an Applied Business course, for AS Level, and in a part of the units we cover, we have to make a website. Now this assignment has recently been given to us. We are expected to produce a website, of at least 10 web pages. The websites purpose must be selling something...

I've thought about various things, and considered many ideas, and most of them were taken by fellow class mates! but I've concluded in producing a website selling Nasheeds http://forums.mpadc.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif which is funny I guess as I didn't really expect myself to be doing Nasheeds!! out of all things Subhan'Allah

so now, due to the lack of time ..and other stuff, we've been given this to do ..using Front Page, and only that! I've personally never used this before n we've just been taught the basics.

AND we're not actually going to sell the products, we're just establishing an online presence for selling them.. ok that probably doesn't make sense...but basically making a website, while learning how things like order forms are supposed to look etc. The efficiency, capability of producing web pages consisting of things like hyper links etc, the ease of navigation and more will be assessed.

Any tips on how I can do a lot of work, in short time? Does anybody here know of any good sites that would be of use to me? ..say for example I was allowed to add animation etc where would I look for them? keeping in mind, I'd like to maintain an Islamic theme Insha'Allah but at the same time its just got to be 'user-friendly' therefore, easy for non Muslims as well...I'm actually confused in what I should do to actually start this now...

..say for example ...I have an image that I want as a background picture on my webpages...I know how to add a background..via format>background>browse>insert the pic....but how do I change it so that the picture doesn't come out tiled? because when I do this, the pic comes out tiled throughout the whole page..n I'm not sure how I change it....

Walaykum Salam ukhtee,

A few quick questions.

How good does it have to be? Are you actually gonna sell them? [i.e you need some sort of payment], when does it have to be in for? and do you want "help" making the website and do it yourself..or do you want me to make a quick one for you?

5 marks for each question, you have 10 minutues, you may begin.

If you come across a decent nasheed website, just copy their coding and put it in your work and you got an A inshAllah :D

9/10 for the answers, lol I meant how good as in, pro good but then I guess you answered it, good enough to get you an A insha'Allah. 4weeks is plenty time bi'ithnillah.

Firstly you gotta come up with a name and a logo and some sort of colour scheme would help, try to keep it simple.

I'll get back to you on the frontpage, Im on the mac right now and it dont have frontpage so gonna have to turn on the PC and stuff and yea.

EDIT: Found out about the frontpage thing, basically you gotta get a big image if you dont want it tiled. Personally, I think images look a bit tacky, keep it a simple colour thats not too hard on the eyes, or if you want an image, pick a simple one..but you gotta stretch it to 1200x800 pixels.

hmm our teachers expectations are hard to understand ..so yeh , just going to do as much as I can...and don't think she'll be expecting anything too 'pro' ..so it should be ok..afterall its only AS.

Name..hmm..how does Nasheed Central ..sound? :o :smack: I don't really like what I'm doing..as its not 'interesting' ..like something where I'm going to learn new things from about the products etc..but I guess..it'll be good to try.

:jkk: n :insha: @ frontpage...

Logo I've got ideas on paper..need to make it so that its becomes graphic :insha: there was something else I was going to ask..oh yeh..you know, how on thenasheedshop.com..there are samples of tracks..how do I do that ?? i.e. just have a part of the nasheed playing..so that the potential buyers can hear samples of it..

we're not going to actually sell ...but it might be done, to see if everything works etc just among us classmates.

Barak'Allah hu feeki.

Nasheed Central sounds fine insha'Allah, not like this is a business plan to take over the e-commerce world or something. Plus they kinda suprised you so you didnt have time to find something "interesting" to research.

Make a quick temp logo just as an imageholder. Your going to need to think about the buttons you need, dont make too many. Suggestion is have:

Nasheed Cnetral [home page]
Nasheeds [and then below it link to each individual nasheed artist?]

To have it like nasheedshop, you have 2 options:

You can change it so when everyone opens and indivual page direct to the album, it plays the sample in the background automatically like simplyislam.com

Or

You can "borrow" nasheed shops coding for that, otherwise, you're going to have to host all the nasheed samples somewhere..

..hmm ..as soon as my teacher gives me an intro to the corel draw thingy I can make the logo. :insha:

I'm not sure what I should do..oh yeh we're allowed to take images and things..from what is already available on the net..so 'borrowing' can be done :p ..how do u get the 'codings' ?

Walaykum Salam,
Actually yea, what would be easier, open frontpage..and take on of their templates. That should sort you out with the buttons and then you can change the logo yourself.

You might want to take the nasheed album covers from nasheedsgop then, right click > save as.. or copy and paste may work.

To get the source, on firefox, click view > page source..

But a lot may not make sense to you..

Lol, ignore a lot of it, all you want is what is between "" and "" but to be honest, the nasheedshop site has got a lot of extra coding, so it wil porbably just confused you even more.

Yea, the camera one will do, but I advise taking pics of the cd covers rather than the CD itself cos that would just look funny.

And ah man, dunlaa @ frontpage...I just switched the PC off, insha'Allah will find out tomrow, cant remember off by heart but I know its got it for sure..

sis, frontpage makes developing sites super easy (and only compatible with IE, because it's also a nasty product from a nasty corporation). first I would suggest you think about the layout of the site. look at sites you might want to get inspiration from. think about how many columns it should have, should it have a banner/header? should it have a footer? (i would say yes)... think about the menu navigation and how u want it to be.

since you'll be selling nasheeds, u'd want something that can be scaled to have a few albums u'd be selling, to many hundreds or even thousands (that's good management thinking  )

think about your target audience, what kind of things would they be drawn in by? should u include a lot of islamic content? should u include music/nasheed? or instrument-free nasheed? think about the colors....stuff like that.

i would say, draw everything up on paper, it'll be easy to implement later on if u already can picture it.

if u need help in learning frontpage, u can try the following tutorials, ranging from super easy for total beginners, to more intermediate and advanced:

http://www.actden.com/fp2000/java/index.htm

http://www.webworksite.com/fptutorials.shtml

u should be just fine with the top two links. the first link is for total beginners and aimed at high school students, while the second link is more for college kids and more straight forward. the last link is for step by step instructions for when u want to implement each part of ur site like menu bar, forms , etc.

Frontpage sucks, thats the end of it. You would be much better off using something such as notepad++ (google it) and check resources here> http://www.w3schools.com/ If you have any other trouble, post up here and I'll see if I can help out.

Also do you have to code the site as your work, or can you use a CMS (Content Management System) and the work is mainly setting up, designing and maintaining the site?

Cos if you can use a CMS this would save you a huge amount of time.

oh ok..:insha: I've decided not to have a image as a background too...its hard then choosing a text that is easy to read afterwards..hmm..me is going for All Black atm @) ..might change it later...I've left the pictures for albums and possible thumbnails..

yeh I've started doing a plan of the whole website on A3 paper so then I'm not making it up as I go along..which might be harder n more time consuming :jkk: that was v.helpful  ..especially the links Masha'Allah I like the second one and will be referring back to it for help :)

hmm..I was thinking of the Nasheed types...how many artists should I do? I'll stick to non music Nasheeds ...so people like Dawud, Zain, Ahmed Bukhatir, Kamal Uddin, ..and maybe others who only use the Daff? like Shaam etc..

not sure, something to do with html?

it's a social networking site, where you can share interfaces, make slideshows with photos from other sites like flickr, make web sites, leave comments to other users, make friends, discover new friends, bla bla bla...

I think mugshot was a lot better....and i never even used that.

edit: i posted the wrong url to mugshot earlier... its mugshot.org , not mugshot.com

the images don't get inserted, it just adds a reference to the images, so if you move the images on your hard drive after you have saved your work, they will not appear in your work when you open it again.

yup, taht IS the problem. i et when she saved the file, she didn't enable frontpage to re-save the image files into a /images directory that's in the same place as index.html (or whatever her page is).

maybe the sist-B should attach the html file here, then we can inspect it further (and maybe give a few pointers)....

btw , the sis could've easily used NVU, or mozilla's composer...

To Sis-B? I was telling her to try NVu...unless that's the same person as the original poster (al qiyamah)

I'm rather frustrated with nvu. For some inexplicable reason, it does not allow you to create frames. Instead it demands you learn CSS to build websites. Now I know some people will reply "it only takes a few hours to learn basic CSS" but it's the principle. A program should be easy to learn, unfortunately many geeks in the open-source world simply don't share this opinion.

i do html, css, javascript in a standard text editor (notepad, gedit) and i find it faster and cleaner than all IDEs ...

however, i use vs.net for asp.net. too much hassle trying to compile all the dlls which need compiling and moving into the right locations.
