A game was recently installed but this was happening before I installed it.

When I press the button to close it though it ain't working and to close it I is have to shove it back in.

erm..

does it happen all the time? or is it just some times?

u know if u go to my computer..and right click on the cd and click eject..does that make a difference?

It opened a few seconds after I clicked eject but I don't know if it's because I did that as I got the windows is not responding message a few seconds afterwards.

It's opening and closing more regularly now . . . like it's doing a :hidban:or something.

u probably have a faulty dvd drive. either that, or there's a program on your comp that's letting a remote user take some control of your pc. i remember my relative made a program a while back where he could open and close people's computer remotely in AOL.....you probably got a similar thing....

or again, like i said, it could just be a faulty cd/dvd drive.... my pc back home has a faulty samsung dvd drive. everytime I insert a DVD, it ejects it right away and i have to put it in three times (the first two times, it gets ejected automatically).

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I usually find threatening my comp with the fact that I have a fully functional laptop that I can use instead makes it do pretty much what I want :D (also works the other way round when the laptop gives me some rubbish about not knowing where my wireless settings are :) )

on a more serious note - run a virus scan/adware thing n it should get rid of any problems

umm what it cud be is a virus or something that has corrupted your whole computer, so u shud jus get it repaired or go to pc world or where ever you got the PC from and tell them the problem and they shud sort it out.. if u got warranty on the computer u can get another CD/DVD drive if you can or just get a brand new dell computer (they r reliable, just about) lol :)

Disable it, uninstall it, take all the cables out, restart PC, make sure it's not showing any trace, shut down, reconnect cables, install again.

i had the same problem with my old PC. turned out i had a virus on my comp.

do u have a virus/trojan on your pc ? do a check to see if you got any.

theres a program out there called netdevil .....all anti-virus software can pick it up but if u dont then u can get it on your pc. and it allows other users to mess around with your PC.

so just do a virus check

Ran a check last night and also did a spyware check. Found no virus.

When the computer was switched on this morning it started up again but Alhumdulilah for the past 2 hours nothing.

maybe someones playing a trick on you? i had a exorcist program once which i installed on my friends pc (as a joke) and it went crazy, i.e. cd drive kept opening and closing, kept opening and closing folders, kept beeping the computers built in speaker and so on.

it was a joke so nothing serious. i wonder if someone has done the same to you?

Well all i can say call up dell and explain to them the problem... they'l connect u to an indian guy and jus explain to him tha problem if he cant fix it then he'l probably suggest you to replace the CD/DVD drive and that shud resolve your problem. dell will send u the replacement, coz ma bros Hard drive was messed up and they replaced it with a new one but they wanted the old Hard drive back so make sure u know how to take the Cd/DVD drive out. hope it helps
