I hate bollywood.

Do what Naima said...listen to nasheeds ;) There's plenty really nice ones around on the forum...ask people if you want some. There's different "tastes" in nasheeds as well so don't think you won't like em just cos you heard some lame ones and didn't like them.

ummbilal is right, music is Haraam, end of, it doesnt matter where you are gonna listen to it. Think of it this way, if you are travelling on a long journey, its gonna be on a form of transport such as a car, aeroplane or whatever, these are often high risk, as in if you were to have an accident you could die. So would you want to die in a state, in which the last thing you were listening to was music?
Stick with Quraan or anasheed, the proper ones, mind :)

I don't recommend listening to quran in the car...

When there's quran being recited (even a recording) you should listen attentively. If you're driving/talking to someone else you are not doing that...so if you're gonna listen to quran you should all remain silent and not talk, but the person driving still has to concentrate so its best not to listen to quran at all while driving...

Just normal non-music nasheeds  (avoid Sami Yusuf and the likes at all costs :p)

If you're a good driver you can listen attentively anddrive carefully :p

dont listen to music - no matter how tempting - and listening to it at any timeof the day - in any situation is wrong. there are some nice nasheeds - put them on ur mp3 player/cd's

Yes and alhamdulillaah I do realise that. But them Daaf drums that they use in Nasheeds are allowed. Any other forms of instruments aren't. That's all I was saying...nothing more...nothing less.

ahh there is some confusion here...

he was asking if one can listen to music while excersing OR on a long journey.

you have picked up that he was asking if he can listen to music excersing on a long journey...

if one is on a long journey then they should listen to wat u have pointed out.

the point i was making was listening to quran recitation on a quick work out defintly seems a bit out of place.

he should jus work out music free..

i hope that has solved the prob here

being on a journey or exercising wont make something halal if it is haram in itself...
like just cos ur on a journey and u need some sustinance u dont start just eating a pork meat or something. exercising and journey doesnt change the status of things from haram into halal

I don't think I could agree more with the above post even if I tried. It's absolutely true! Asian parents often get worried when their kids are watching hollywood filth but not when they are watching bollywood filth. Its yet another case of culture taking priority over deen. They feel the threat to the culture posed by the western material but do not care so much about the threat to the deen posed by the bollywood junk.

Personally I was always encouraged to watch cartoons and sports programmes as a kid and never developed an interest in films. Having said that, I don't wish to be a munafiq and I have listened to a lot of music in the past and I've cut down now but I still occasionally do.

I think what you were reading was about daffs...they are what we call tambourines but minus the jingling things...just the tambourine drum bit :)

Great way piof putting it urban_rose btw

You should not have the Qur'an playing in the baclground if u are working out or busy with sumthing. However nasheeds are fine :). Also, to listen to music anyway is as we all knw haraam..but imagaine listening to music whilst on a journey and u have an accident..wudnt that be like a ticket to hell...scary tho..

I listen to music during exercising, esp. when it comes to aerobics. It gives you that push and that beat. I would never put on a nasheed or anything islamic during this beczause I don't think its respectful enough. Esp. during aerobics. :S But I dunno the Islamic view on this so yeh....

When i used to go to gym I'd just sing to a jihaadi nasheed in my head, that gave me plenty of push. Alot more than any gay music could

Back in the days, it was a training partner and the expletives he used to push you.

Hollywood and Bollywood both shaytan's trap. Be it music or movies.

The only things allowed are the voice and the drum.
