Assalaamu 'alaikum
We recently rebooted our laptop, and I forgot to save one file that my hubby urgently needs!!!
We downloaded this software: http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ but it's not working..is there any other way we can retrieve the file, or if its even possible?
JazakAllah!

yes it is possible to recover the files. Probably thre easiest way without physically removing the hard drive is to use a porgram called ERD Commander..the problem is that this software is not free.
There is also a program called "File Scavenger" http://www.snapfiles.com/get/filescavenger.html
Again not free. it does have a free trial but i assume alot of features have been cut down.
Give it a try hopefully it will allow you to recover what you need.

Why is not Recover My Files not working?
If its a Word document and you had autosave every 5 minutes set it will be saved somewhere?
But you said you 'rebooted' the laptop? Do you mean you rebuilt the laptop? If this is the case, you may have formatted the whole partition, which makes data recovery more difficult.
JazakAllah for your replies!
Al-Qamar, recovermyfiles does not let me select the logical drive - when i select it, the OK button is not clickable..
By reboot I do mean rebuilt - i.e. re-mastered....how difficult would recovering the file be?

using file savanger it is prretty straight forward, Also as you do it pretty soon as the longer you leave it the harder it will be to recover the files. Have you tried the trial version?
