Do you use Khuda Hafiz or Allah Hafiz? (when leaving)

The word Khuda is NOT mentioned in the Quran or Hadiths. If I'm correct, it is a Persian/Iranian word (?) :o

neither, i thought Allah hafiz and kudha hafiz were asian coloquial terms  Allahu alam i dont know but i have never heard any arab say this, but anyway i say as salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh or maybe if the person is having troubles or i wont see them for a long time wa Allahu alam i say, fi amaanillah wa salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh, cos when we meet or leave muslims this is what were supposed to say and send the peace and mercy and blessings of Almighty Allah upon them.

I dont understand why people say Allah hafiz instead of the greeting our Nabi(saaw) used and the other Prophets as well which is As Salaamu Alaykum.

Its not that hard people:rolleyes:

Khuda is Farsi for God. Its generally used by those in Iran and the Indian Subcontinent. Hafiz in this context means "in protection of"...so Khuda/Allah hafiz translates roughly into the departing phrase "may you be in the protection of Allah/God"

As I said its a cultural phrase used by some people. Its not necessarily "haram" or "bidah" (before the bidah brigade on here gathers some empty steam  ) and is sometimes used interchangeably with Asalaamalaykum, though often by older people they stick to Allah hafiz or its other derivatives.

I say both - normally give salaam when departing but its not uncommon for me to depart with just Khuda Hafiz.

Also other terms used are:

ALLAH Hafiz (In ALLAH's Protection)
ALLAH Malik (In ALLAH's Ownership)
ALLAH sohney Rabba de hawaley (In ALLAH, the beautiful Lords custody)
ALLAH de hawaley (In ALLAH's custody)

It only allows me to pick one option whereas I use two. Sometimes I say Allah hafiz and other times Asalamu alaykum.

My parents use those phrases a lot, except for the third 1 ....

giving salaams is a sunnah so thats what i do. some muslims give me a weird look when i say assalamu alaikum when going, i imagine they think i dont realise thats supposed to be a greeting

Yeah makki, most Asian Muslims only say that when they're arriving somewhere, not when they're leaving. If you get up to leave and say that, they might be thinking "but why is he saying that when he's about to leave?".

a Muslim should say Salaams when you see someone as well as Salaams when you finish talking to someone, anything else is wrong. There are rewards for saying Assalamu Alaikum not Allah Hafiz, so which is more better to use?
