get a note book

i remember i went to a talk once..and the speaker started about the ettiquetes of seeking knowledge...he said we should keep notes and read over them etc..and then cussed brothers saying they make notes on these manky pieces of paper which are all crumpled and squashed into their pockets..but sisters have these fancy book with pretty coloured pens

i usually write everything the speaker says..otherwise i lose concentration

I think the key is to not write everything down you hear...lol
It may sound silly but trust me it works because most people me included just write down what was said in my their own words.

I think it maye be good to maybe listen for about 5mins and pause it and reflect upon what you heard and take down what u think is the most important and if you ahev the time re-listen to it.

If your in actual talks i think the best thing to do is summarise what you heard and write down things that you didn't know, don't botehr with stuff you already know.

Also i think don't write too much because then you just send up with sheets and sheets of paper which u most liely chuck away.

As for organisation maybe get a note book so u can have a series of talk notes all togtehr so u don't ahve to keep rumaging around to find them

Hope i was of some help inshAllah:)

most bros forget to bring anything to take notes on...so u look for the nearest leaflet u can find...and write on the back of that :o

so have u lot got all the notes to the talks u went to?

cos im thinking...so much knowlegde we waste by not writing it down..unless u have a super duper memory

you know it doesn't matter what it's written on it could be a napkin...as long as you make the effort to revise them that's key! because what's the point if they are in a nay folder with nice headings etc and it sits collecting dust somewhere in your room.

i cant write very fast...and when I do write, if I come back to it I cant read my own handwriting (I have truely awful hand writing)

What I'd recommend doing, if possible, is taking your laptop and using a note taking application on there for taking notes. I can type a lot faster than I can write and most importantly text on computers is always readable :p Computers can organise your notes a lot better than paper based systems, can search quicker, backup, print etc plus if you have a built in mic/plugin mic you can record the talk (depending on how good your mic is and how close you are to the speaker) and listen back to it later amending your notes and making better ones (and refer to times in the recording for topics that you may want to go into more detail on e.g. "So and so blah blah (see 6:51)")

Do a google for note taking software...there are some pretty good ones designed specifically for students.

i only take notes wen im in the notetaking mood. most of the time i make the notes at home from the book material and then just add to them wen i go to class with wat the professor talks about, examples, etc.

and then wen ur studying from exams, u can take those notes and make notes from those notes - a condensed version - and make notes from the condensed notes so u hav a super condensed version and study from that. i did that and alhamdulillah it worked amazing for my management and business ethics course. :hidban:

yeh laptops are good for notetaking  baba does that n u can do it really quick n get like 95% of the info all down

as for me i use notebook n pen, i write quite quick alhamdulillah but i agree with whoever said no need 2 write stuff u already know (well sometimes write it jst for the sake of it, but if u need 2 miss it to save time n write something else then allow writing it)

yes there are text books. i take notes from the text book with the lecture notes and compile them. and u dont HAVE to take all those notes sheeesh :smack: only if u wanna get a good grade. if u hav a better study method then by all means please share with the rest of us :D

i do record them sumtimes...but thats not a very good way to learn because u have to spend as long as the lecture was listening again, and unless u do make notes ur likely to forget again.

Well I've only done GCSE's so far and am doing AS levels now...but my method is basically do no work during the year (but listen in lessons if possible) and at the end of the year, sit down and read through entire textbooks, stopping at the end of chapters to do the questions in the book etc and write down what you can remember making sure you get the major points.

Worked very well for GCSE...dunno what'll happen this year :p

Write key words and later when you come back home write them in details from the brain. Doing it at the very same day is very good. It really works fine if your handwriting is slow or something. :D
Ahh laptop keyboard hardly makes noise but to be very honest it looks kinda not liking to use laptop as it catches others attention to see what is this guy up to let me read some lines...

My personal advice is for a person to start making effort to memorise the talk or to remember its structure. Its hard at the beginning but over time you can manage it. It's all about exercicing your brain - once you master it - you can basically structure the talk in your head and regurgitate it approximately when the time comes to relay the talk to another.

Same, i cant take notes and listen to the lecture at the same time. If i wanna remember the lecture i usually listen to it again, rewind it and hear it again.
