April 28th and 29th 2007 - Both days 8:30AM - 7:00PM (Lunch break 12:30PM - 2:30PM)

The third pillar of Islam - Zakat - is an obligation upon the believers reminding them to look after the affairs of our destitute and needy. If the zakat were paid properly, then poverty would cease to exist and if it is withheld - then rain would cease to fall.

In The Price of Salvation: All about Zakat - you will learn about:

The importance of this type of obligation - both spiritually as well as materialistically.

The types of people upon whom Zakat is obligatory. Is Zakat obligatory on communal charities, non-profit dawah organizations? Upon children or upon the mad? Does having a mortgage mean you don't have to pay Zakat? Find out answers to this and more.

The essential principles upon which Zakat is based.

The classification of wealth in Islam and the various Zakat dues on them.
Modern wealth and Zakat on them - such as shares and bonds, investment properties, businesses of various types. What is the Zakat on Telstra shares with the knowledge that it has numerous lines of business? How do you work out Zakat in different currencies? How do you work out Zakat in complex businesses? On pre-tax or Post-tax profit? Is there Zakat on GST? These questions and more will all be answered.

Who to pay and when? Can Zakat be paid by credit card? Can you give Zakat to the Cancer foundation or Royal Children's hospital? What is better, to keep the zakat here or send it overseas? Can Zakat be given to dawah websites? Can Zakat be given to muslim civil rights groups working to safeguard Muslim rights in the West? Can Zakat be given to political parties to lobby them for a Muslim cause?! These amazing questions and more will all be answered in this course.

The Price of Salvation will be taught using case based teaching strategies with so many practical examples that you will come out of the lessons qualified to deal with the most common of practical zakat problems.

30 things you will learn from this course insha'allah

Yet another course is over. I wish it never ended but alhamdulilah... it was one of the best courses I have taken so far. Mashallah there is so much wisdom behind zakat not only the 2.5% that you pay. Mashallah the Sheikh taught us how to run a country... basically! " [M R, Melbourne]

" It was an awesome weekend, Alhumdulillaah. Subhan'Allaah, who ever thought there would be so much to know about Zakaat? As the shaykh said, it's not only about the 2.5%! Those who didn't attend it, really missed out, as with the previous courses. Subhan'Allaah, you walk out of that lecture theatre amazed, and wondering what you would have done if you never attended it!"
[F A, Melbourne]

Don't miss learning about this pillar of Islam:

Learning about Zakat allows you to complete and perfect your Islam, because it is one of its pillars.
It is indicative of a person’s sincerity of faith.
It cleanses the character of the one who gives it, so that he is saved from being a miser and is included among the generous.
It gladdens the heart. If a person gives something, especially wealth, he feels a sense of joy.
It joins a person to the ranks of the true believers. “None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”
It is one of the means of entering Paradise, because Paradise is for the one who “speaks good words, spreads (the greeting of) salaam, feeds the hungry and prays at night when the people are asleep.”
It makes the Muslim society like a single family, in which those who have the means show compassion to those who do not have the means, and the rich to those who are in hardship.
It prevents financial crimes such as robbery and stealing and the like, because the poor will get enough to meet their needs, and they will excuse the rich because they are giving them some of their wealth.
Salvation from the heat of the Day of Resurrection. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Every man will be in the shade of his charity on the Day of Resurrection.”
It leads a man to learn about the laws of Allaah, because he can never pay his zakaah until he has learned the rulings on zakaah, the kinds of wealth that are subject to zakaah and those who are entitled to receive it, and other information that he needs.
It purifies wealth, so that the wealth will grow literally and metaphorically.
It is a means of bringing down blessings. In the hadeeth it says: “No people ever withheld the zakaat of their wealth except that rain is withheld from the sky.”
It extinguishes the wrath of Allah and wards off a bad end to one's life.
It wrestles with the calamity that comes down from heaven and prevents it reaching earth.
It expiates for sins. The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Charity extinguishes sins as water extinguishes fire.”
