so we're gnna try this out in skool

my P.E teacher is really enthusiastic about it and we're gnna compare results with the boys school (just to prove that some girls can be more fit than boys) - although generally comparing a 13 yr old girl with a 13 yr old boy in a race, the boy will be more likely to win (no sexism intended here)

anyone ever done this before?
any general advice for it?

coz insha'allah im going to try to aim really high (ok never the stop score coz only David Beckham (football), Lance Armstrong (cycling) and Neil Back (England rugby player) have acheived the top score *rolls eyes*

Are you talking about the bleep test?

We did it in school all the time.. was quite fun! :D

Bleep test, omg, that was so fun for real, I miss that..

I remember we used to that in secondary school, the one with the tape playing and you go from one side to the other right.

Alhamdullah I remember I did the best in the school in year 11, got level 18 *smiles*

We were told before it.. to be a policeman you gotta be level 15, a fireman level 16, footballers average is level 17, and I dont know why but rugby guys got the highest, apparently their average was like 18.

Advice: the fattys finish after level 4, so dont embarrass yourself and end there. At the beggining, the beep is slow so take your time, stroll the first few levels, then in the middle start jogging [our one sped up as it goes up the levels if I remember correctly] and keep it constant, dont waste your breath at the beggging. Also set yourself a target, Im not sure what the average of a girl your age is, but aim to beat that by 2 or 3 levels..

8? You sure? *scratch*

8 was just below haflway, maybe we did it on a different scale?

Its the thing with the tape right? bleep...run...bleep...and you gotta get to the other side before the bleep?

If the highest someone got was 8, we musta been using some fake system, but he did say policeman, to get into the force you gotta get 15, so how does 8 become the highest..

EDIT: re reading, lol am I adding a 10 to everything...maybe I got 8 and thinking I got 18. So what, policeman is 5, fireman 6, footballer 7, rugby 8...makes sense I guess but 8 wasnt the highest, I remember it went upto 19 or 20 [which could have been 9 or 10]

EDIT 2: Is there anywhere I can get hold of the tape? I'd like to re do it insha'Allah to see if I've got worse or better.

Alhamdulilah, I wasnt wrong..

There are 21 levels, man ur yusra, you got me worried for a second. 18 levels, thats 15 shuttle runs.

http://www.topendsports.com/testing/beep-shuttles.htm

This test involves continuous running between two lines 20m apart in time to recorded beeps. For this reason the test if also often called the 'beep' or 'bleep' test. The time between recorded beeps decrease each minute (level). There are several versions of the test, but one commonly used version has an initial running velocity of 8.5 km/hr, which increases by 0.5 km/hr each minute (more on test variations (http://www.topendsports.com/testing/beep-variations.htm)).

Then how comes I was over the moon when I got higher then a seven.. the average in my class was around four to five.

I think she used a pseudo version or something.. either that or we were all suffering from hypertension/hypercholesterolaemia/cardiovascular disease due to the school dinners.

I haven't done it since year 7...did really badly then (was fat).

I wanna redo it now...actually, no. I think once I've gotten fitter, I wanna redo it :p

Abu Muslim's right btw. It does go up to 20-something, I think 24. 18 is very very good...in year 7 the highest anyone in my class got was 12.

I think I got 7.something in yr 7 :o :o

What benefit is there in lying, insha'Allah you will find me to be amongst the truthful. And its the same distance for everyone, dont matter if its a titchy hall [although our hall was average sized], but its 20 metre distance as a rule..

Barak'Allah hu feeki. No point practicing bleep test specifically, its a stamina test, whats better is for you to go out and jog constantly but your a sister so I advise you to stay in your house and jog for like 5 minutes on the spot, do this everyday and your stamina will improve bi'ithnillah.

And its good everyone is competitive, will help you to do better, if you join up with your mate and have a compo to see who can last longer, will make it more fun for you too.

Jazak'Allah for the link, now I just need to find 20 metres of open space, take my laptop out and re do it and see if I'm any better than a few years back..

No I died [lol, I heard that in a cartoon once, that was funny]

Na, I havnt done it, and Im not going to do it while im here either, the weather isnt on my side *sticky tongue out*

Id have to do it outside because I dont have 20 metres of free space in my flat, and if I do it during the day, its way too hot..and if I do it during the night, Id look like a nutter. So I'll do it someday soon insha'Allah, allahu hu alim.

And insha'Allah, well I hope I've improved, that was in year 11, like time ago, and I play even more football now then I did then so must have improved..I better have *lashes emoticon*
