In the name of Allah, the Watchful, the Judge

Not literally, I mean in prayer. What is it with people who pray like its the olympics. This applies to brothers mostly in the masjid, following the imam though can apply to sisters who pray in jama'ah also.

No matter what happens, you cannot beat the imam, you cant leave till he is finished, so whats the rush.

Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Do not bow until he bows, do not prostrate until he prostrates [meaning the imam].”

He [SAW] also said:“Does the one who raises his head before the imam not fear that Allaah may turn his head into the head of a donkey, or make his form like that of a donkey?”

So ayuhal muminoon, please dont try to beat the imam *smiles*

lol so true Subhan'allah! Also the worst of thieft is a person who steals from his salaat, and you can do this by rushing the prayer and not performing certain actions properly...May Allah tala not make us among one of these people, Allahumma ameen :)

Alhamdulillah so true i dunno how people can recite that quickly or say the tashahud that fast, i cant keep up, reminds me of this hadith too just like chickens up and down peck peck peck...

Abu ‘Abdullah al-Ash’ari reported that the Prophet, led his Companions in prayer, then he sat with a group of them. A man came in and started topray, but made his movements rapid like a chicken pecking the ground. The Prophet said: “Do you see this? Whoever dies having done this has died outside of the community of Muhammad, and his prayer is like a crow pecking blood. The person who bows, then pecks in his sujood is like a hungry man who eats no more than one or two dates - what good will that do him?”

(classified as sahih by albani can be found in The Prophet’s Prayer described excellent descriptions of prayer in there Alhamdulillah )

I find that those who pray really quickly recite so loudly! and it really distracts me when when on Fatiha or the Tashahudd etc as I get confused by what they are reading! :smack:

Ah, the whisper louder than everyone else syndrome. Its hard enough having khushoo in salah with some old man breathing loudly next to you but then on top of that you get guys who think you get more reward for reading loud without actually reading and in sajdah, they're like subsususbs, subsusbsusb

I dont get the mentality of those who go before the imam, you cant beat him, as in you're not going to leave before he has finished the salah, so why try to beat him in the other rakahs.

It was reported that when the prophet (SAWS) would come from ruku, he would take his time before going into sujuud. The sahabah would say, we thought he may have forgotton. Now people just say "Sami'allahu hamida" and they drop down like dead birds.

I dont know if its me or something, has someone noticed depending on the ethnicity of the imam, you can see a pattern of the style of praying.. ya3nee i mean.. some ethnic group prolong their sujuud, while some go into sujuud and right back up in a split second. anyone noticed? or am i over analysing things?

I remember my first taraweeh (when i started practising) you know when you trousers are rolled up to your knees and you rough patches hair, and you attitude is like "I dont care, i am goign to be like the prophet) and yuo go hours in the masjid going through ALL books. anyways... SO i got really excited because an asian bro told me about taraweeh and why we do it etc... so ok i go down.... and im like smiling al the way untill i heard Allaahu akbar, then i tried to you know get serious concetrate and remember now your in front of HIM. Then all i heard was something I never heard before? 1 hour later taraweeh was finished. Then I asked the brother why he recited fast, he said this is because most of people cant hack it so imam helps them out by reciting a bit faster. So ok, here i got used to 1 hr taraweeh but I moved now to West of the city, and now am in a morrocan neighbourhood, Akhee I dont know if you have prayed behind north african imams, akhee.. . it was complete opposite, and to be honest after 10th rakat i couldnt hack it. I had to take break and then get back into it. Alhamdulillah i managed to get used to later on... Depending on where you go you'll see something different, if you go to Yemeni / Somali masajid, you'll see them do 8 rakat taraweeh with like 5 min sujood. So alhamdulillah we have diversity in taraweeh too! :)

Alright lemme re phrase that, SOME asian imams, in the asian masjids, *cough* wimbeldon park* *cough* not east london, they are the best in London masha'Allah, the ramadhan taraweeh over there is amazing masha'Allah.

Akhee I dont know if you have prayed behind north african imams, akhee..

Akhee, something tells me I have *sticky tongue out* and I dont mean from ladbroke grove masjid or sheperds bush masjid.

Try East London masjid next taraweeh akhee, masha'Allah they got the biggest diversity of quraa for the taraweeh, from all over the world. One from bangladesh, one from somali, one from egypt and one I dont know but its amazing subhan'Allah. And they all do a nice speed, not speeding, so it just goes to show..is not really a specific ethnicity that prays different which also contradicts what I said earlier but oh well.

lol i hate it when little kids are praying in front of me or next to me. they usually mess about and make me laugh, either because they're being silly or doing the salah ridiculously quickly. which means i have to go and do wudhu again :(

We got two imams in our mosque. One reads really fast and the other one slow. Prefer the one that reads slow cuz u got more time to concentrate in qiyam and ruku and sujud

Mashaa Allah you are so right! I do it sometimes but unawarely :o . Its usually an older person that prays as the Imam so when when she goes down all slow and i am unaware that i am down before her. My mom made realize that. Its kinda scary. I gotta be more careful next time! :o

I wonder how many mistakes are made because people are hasten to perform salaat

What made me wonder is when I was college and we prayed Jummah, the room would fill up quickly after the Khutbah, brothers with there automatic wadu :torture:
