i gave up trying after memorizing the 2nd last juz. u know cuz how we started memorizing from the back. and then after the 2nd last one i jumped to the front and memorized bits and peices of certain surahs like the last few ayahs of baqara and the first half of Rahman, and Kaf  :(
ALlah bless and reward all my tajweed teachers and all my other quran teachers who took so much time and patience to deal with me!

sis why dnt u jst start doing it in a slow pace insha allah, but regularly.. then u can feel u are at least making a small progress.. like if u got surahs u didnt finish, u can finish them insha allah then why not go back 2 the end for the 3rd last juz, so again its not that long for u?

Yes, its always hard at first, the thought of memorizing the whole qur'an makes you think you're incapable of doing it, but in reality if you make a step towards it, Allah makes it easy for you, but you have to keep yourself devoted to it and begin with pure intentions i hear some people say it's hard as they're working or studying but really when you ignore all those thoughts you feel the blessings and you naturally seem to fit it in with everything else, you know, i did hifz along with uni, part-time work and my aalimah there was never a time where i thought 'oh this is too much' or 'i don't have enough time' i always felt that Allah made more time for me, its hard to explain but alhamdulillah, i'm so grateful to Allah 'azza wajjal and i think of myself to be lazy so if i can do it, i'm sure more people out there can insha'Allah, don't let these negative thoughts stop you :)

In Somalia kids usually memorize the Quran at a very young age. My father was under the age of 10 when he memorized the Quran and my mother was about 12 MashaAllah. I'm on my way to memorizing it all inshaallah. Make dua for me please.

as a fellow parent of 3 kids, sometimes only the parent knows whats best for a child.....in obeying ur parents wishes they maybe indirectly saving you from some kinda sin that could perhaps propitself up unintentionally......

akhi, i'm just saying from personal experience that sometimes parents will tell you not to go to masaajid and indeed the womens mosque is her home but if the daughter is living in a non muslim country and she goes to university, school, college or work, she's going to be out and about anyway so i don't see the harm in allowing your daughter to go. Of course there may be other issues e.g the mosque may be too far or it may not have a very large community of sisters visiting the masaajid in which case i agree with you...

Learning and memorizing the Quran is a blessing, but only if you apply the laws of the Quran to your daily affairs as well. If all Somalis did that their country would not be in such turmoil. There's no point in memorizing the Quran, putting it on a shelf for dust to gather on top of it and saying "I memorized the Quran".

very true, i find it more worrying that if you do not implement the qur'an in your day-to-day life it will be a witness against you on the Day of Judgment

I agree with you.. but at the same time the parents must emphasize the responsibility that comes with learning the entire Qur'aan.. not only that but they should ensure they teach the child arabic so that they understand what it is they have learnt.. subhan'Allah that is so important! yet often neglected..

Alhamdulillah,am becuming a haafizah.
sis sarah,it's brilliant in south africa.av been there, theres two i knw of,i went 2 da azadville one.
Alhamdulillah theres many benifits of bcumin a haafiz,a few:
1.u get 2 crown ur parents on the day of judgement
2.u get 2 take 10 ppl from ur family 2 jannah,on which jahannum has bcum waajib upon
3.its a sunnat
a person who memorises the quraan & then 4gets it will wake up blind on the day of judgement.even if itz sumut small like the 30 juz or even surah Yaseen, itz very important 2 keep goin over it.
a person who dies while gainin ilm, there will only be a 1 rank difrence between him & the prophets.
theres a saying in urdu that goes:
Quraan ko hifz karna, bohot hi aasaaan hai, lekin usko yaad rakhna, bohot hi mushkil hai!!!
to memorise the quraan is easy, but itz the remembering part thats the hardest.

Just a question related to this. A haafiz is one who COMPLETES the Holy Qur'an. Or is one who completes and MEMORISES it ALL? In my understnading, the second one applies.

sis sarah,it's brilliant in south africa.av been there, theres two i knw of,i went 2 da azadville one.
How far along are you sis???
very true....the hard part is remembereing the Quraan.
with us guys we perform taraweeh salaah in the musjids and what your read in taraweeh is very difficult to forget, subhanAllah....also daily recitation even if by memory helps all the time.
my 8yr old son, Ahmed is doing Hifz Full time....Make dua for him Insha-Allah. He has completed 1 and half juz, Masha-Allah.....May Allah make it easy for him and you sis...ameen
Shukran

MashAllah to learn the Quran is beautiful, when we follow it aswell tho  ... its not just about reciting. There is a hadeeth which says do not look at how good a man is because of the sweetness of his recitation of the quran but look to the one who follows it better !
also the sahaba used to learn 10 ayaat at a time and would never move on to the next bit until they learnt it , understood it and implemented it !
Just a reminder for us all !
May Allah guide us and grant us all jannah, Ameen !

it means the protector of the Quraan, meaning that a Haafiz memorises the entire Quraan.
May Allah keep the Quraan strong in the hearts of the Huffaaz....ameen...

Ameen, and thanks. Just thought that when some people ask are u a haafiz, they mean do you 'know' the Holy Qur'an, i.e. completed it and not memorising it.

Not Yet ------- But NEARLY THERE - please make duaa for me to finish quickly and before i die, and inshallah to get my parents to wear the taaj (crown) on Judgement Day!
May All Our Parents Wear the Taaj On Judgement Day!
Just wanted to say: Never give up, just keep trying, and inshallah you shall succeed. It's a muslim's jihad to get through this life, and it is not easy! And a part of it is to always try and do our best in memorizing the Qu'ran. ashallah, i have found that when you start memorizing the Qu'ran, you find the straight path open in front of you, and everything becomes easy for you , alhamdullilah!!
May We All Memorise the Qu'ran inshallah before we die, and meet in Jannat Al Firdous Inshallah!
And Allah Knows Best!

yes transliterating from arabic to english is tricky.
its with the Zaw. the english language is silly if you ask me.
thats y ALLAH chose Arabic for his BOOK
and one of the names of ALLAH is YA HAFEEZ (or your transliteration YA HAFEEDH)

Alhamdu lillah, by the grace of Allah (swt) I managed to memorise the Qur'an. My goal is still to become Hafiz though, a Hafiz being one who if you question him on any ayah then he knows where it is and can continue reciting. By that definition its quite different to having memorised the Qur'an. May Allah (swt) protect all those who memorised the Qur'an and make us Huffaz and make us die as Huffaz, Ameen.

ameen to your duas......my dear respected bro, a haafiz is one who memorises the Holy Quraan. That is the easier part of becoming a haafiz, however the hardest part of becoming a haafiz is remembering the holy Quraan....that is the only way you would be able to read from any ayah as you put it....
