Another event themed on the same subject matter but with other speakers:
PEACE IN THE HOOD
Date: Sunday 6th May 2007
Time: 12.00 pm - 6.00 pm
Venue: Capital City Academy, Doyle Gardens, London, NW10 3ST
A major event for the community where we will be inviting prominent scholars such as Professor Dawud Noibi, Dr Imran Alawiye of Gateway to Arabic, Sheikh Faid from Medina and ex-gangsters who have come into Islam.
Hopefully the event will encourage awareness amongst Muslims and non-Muslims and will help in breaking the ice and clearing any misconceptions people may have about Islam.
We will also be bringing Muslim businesses together and helping to introduce them to the public in order for the community to benefit from the services and products available to them. We would like to open new doors for the Muslims to revive the sense of brotherhood. The day will be an enjoyable one for the whole family in a halal and blessed environment. Your presence
will be very advantageous with a long term positive effect on our society, inshaAllah.
Stalls cost 35 pounds.
All welcome.

Seen as the brother is a convert perhaps he didn't realise- someone should tell him.
Attention:
As for the THE TRUTH ABOUT 2PAC SHAKUR event mentioned above ^^^ it is geared towards attracting non-Muslims and non-practising brothers who are into crime, etc.
Therefore with that in mind it is unlikely there will be segregation, sallah facilities, etc. nor will it have an 'Islamic' message as such and therefore I would advise against sisters (esp. younger ones) attending this however the PEACE IN THE HOOD is suitable for all insha'allah.
Jezak'allah.

Na'am their not targetting the practising Muslims nor is his talk about how he came into Islam- its more about the crimes, fitnah, filth he and others were involved in and how its not a good life to go down.
Most of the attendees will be non-Muslim street youngsters, some in gangs and crime still, and some non-practising Muslims- some don't know the mentality of how to view women let alone our sisters so it will not be safe at all. :(
No segregation either.
I only posted it for brothers who know non-practising bros in gangs, drugs, etc. to go so they see the realities NOT for our sisters in Islam as it will be likely unsafe for you all. Insha'allah do attend the PEACE IN THE HOOD.

I think there is a difference in "revealling past sins" where there are oppertunities that people may be able to benefit in that, it may be a glimmer of hope and possibly reassurance that if someone who was in such a Jahil situation could come of it for the better and that in turn may make them revert their trust to Allah swt and remind themselves that Allah swt is The Most Merciful and is Oft Forgiving and Allhamdu'llilah for that reason i think it makes perfect sense. Na'am there is a difference between one who looks at his days of jahiliyyah with disgust at what he/ she did, in a sincere repentant state recounting these times to others in order to stear them away from such a evil path.
And another who looks at what wrongs he did with glee boasting and recounting all the fitnah so as to make these events appealing and exposing his/ her sins.
Aside from this brother one can look into the lives of great men and women such as the Sahabah (ra) and of them there were some that did a number of bad deeds pre-Islam in the times of ignorance but after they entered the deen wholeheartedly though those deeds were no more they still recounted and wept at the thought of that which they did and the thought that they would still have remained as such but for Allah (swt) guiding them and our Rasul (saw) having taught them their errors.
An example is Umar (ra) and we know of what he achieved for Allah's sake, his firmness upon the haqq, and closeness and defence of our Nabi (saw) after accepting the truth but before the advent of Islam he buried his infant daughter alive and did a many number of things. We learn of this so as to derive lessons to know this is wrong as Rasul (saw) put an end to such customs and traditions showing us what paths to avoid and why our deen opposed such ill ways and the solutions it brings.

good point
:smack: I was thinking of taking my lil bro.... he really needs this....
will ask my dad to take him..... though this reeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaally not his scene
Allaahu alim
Ukthy you would most likely not be safe :(, and your father if he takes the brat may feel out of place there and not comfortable considering, also your little brother will most likely be opposed to his dad taking him there, sitting, supervising him, than taking him home which all makes him look 'uncool' so rather than listen to the message the little rascal will most likely just block it out and go to sleep.
Try instead to get one of your blood brothers/ male cousins to take him insha'allah- thats better all round.

I have lived near to this area all my life, it is perfectly safe!!
There are more dangerous areas like Hackney and Steathem but no-one complaisn about them, i recommend anyone who is in fear of coming to this event to trust Allah (swt) people get mugged and abused even in rich posh areas
Yeah, just saw him and Moazzam Begg at Brondesbury College in North London. Excellent mash'Allah
