the idea is to take a surah and memorize an ayat or two a day, and whoever wants to join in says so, and is encouraged by each other, and there are regular check-ins to report progress!


so what surah..chould we shoose?

yeh in a group, i think its a gd idea and il see how it works out like that or il just leanring the meaning of the surah am memorising word by word inshAllah.

the complete virtue of this surah is attained through committing it to memory as mentioned in the narrations Hafidh Ibn Kathir relates in his tafsir

Alhamdulillah because almaghrib institute forum is set up for purely learning, and alhamdulillah the administrator sheikh Muhammad ALshareef himself posts regularly and people discuss the seminars of almaghrib they went to, exchange notes, post up articles, and the memorisation thread is strictly well organised by several moderators.

And since everything there is educational, there is very no distraction on the forum.

Where as ummah has LOADS of threads ranging topics, so distraction is much bigger.

yeh i was just gonna split it up into the sections that we are learning..so if were doing 5 ayahs..then the audio for it will be the 5 ayahs..which we can put on mp3 players on repeat :)
i dont mind doing two recitors though...

The way we're doin it here attempts to overcome the distractions we would have if we were doing this alone. see if you do memorization as a collective you have a source of encouragement and support.

Also bro/sis id recommned that even if you are sturggling to learn it, you need to read it after every maghrib salah- along with quranic reciation played simultaneously.

and then play the recitaion in the kitchen while your doing dishes/lifting weights whatever so you can eventually anticipate the next ayah inshallah.

Looks like we're going to start on Surah Yaseen insha'Allah. I was looking around on the al maghrib forums on how it could work etc and I think their method is good masha'Allah

This is what happens:
1) A new topic is created, and everyday 2 ayaats are posted [if the ayaat are short, 3 will be posted]
2) Links to the surah will be posted so you may listen and ibn sulaiman and other people will split the surah into the 2 ayahs everyday, so you can whack that onto the ipod and listen on repeat to aid you
2) everyday all those participating need to "sign in" in a seperate topic to say they've learnt it...that way its like you have to do homework and you'll feel guilty if you havnt done it because everyone has.
3) we do this all the way till the surah is finished insha'Allah

Thats it in a nutshell, the new topic will be more detailed etc but thats the initial idea.

Now we gotta decide on something..where are we going to post it? Lifestyle? [al maghrib has its own dedicated section for this, maybe an idea]
And secondly, is everyone ok with 2 ayaats everyday insha'Allah?

A topic will be created insha'Allah, and everyone has to "sign up" in there, the reason for putting your name down is so you are "commited" and theres no backing out and will encourage you do it rather than randomly one day coming in halfway through the surah and thinking your shuraim.

btw, I agree with you about the surah mulk reasoning but everoyne has chosen surah yaseen, so khair, surah yaseen it is insha'Allah.

Question now, where do we post it, in lifestyle, learn about islam, muslim or new section?

We're starting from tomrow insha'Allah, the first 3 ayaats will be put up tonight 12am, and we have until sat 11:59pm to learn it. Every single day 2 new ayaats will be put up in the same one topic insha'Allah

So one topic to sign in, one topic with the ayaats and one topic for the intial sign up.

We should have our own section.

I can read arabic akhi but I find it easier to use a mix of arabic, transliteration, and audio.

At the moment how I learn surahs is I have the surah open on quran.islamicnetwork.com with "Arabic" and "transliteration" ticked and all others unchecked. I make the text several sizes bigger (ctrl++) and then download the recitation from audio.islamicnetwork.com (I prefer shuraym). I play an ayah over and over (i have alt+left bound to rewind by 5 seconds) while reading the transliteration. Any weird bits I check the arabic to make sure I'm making no mistakes and am pronouncing it right (e.g. th is used for both thaal and thaa)

I like my way, it prevents mistakes and makes learning easier. Hopefully this will have helped someone else learn better...although everyone has their own way of learning and that is my way :)

quran recitation
prayers from Makkah and madina
Quran Transliteration and Translation Lectures
and Tajweed stuff!

I think we should have the section in the main, like beneath learn about islam, not inside it, so you can see it on the main page because I couldnt even find it at first so I can imagine other people having troubles and also, people who arent registered may be interested in joining just do to the reciation?

Also maybe rename it? I dunno, "organised grouped projects" just seems like some folder youd find in the office, maybe rename to "Ummah Forum Projects or something" and then make it like al maghrib where they have a different section for each project..cos now Im thinknig if we get other projects going insha'Allah, theres going to be topics flying all over the place, madha tufaqireen?

bro i kind of hid it in there thinking if its slightly hidden then those who are interested will kno where 2 go for it, but we wont have ppl off topic. if it is too prominent we will get full of ppl posting stupid things like "oh this is good how do we do it?" and messing the place up, is wat i thought?
renaming it, i dont mind doing :up: i jst put first thing i cn think of so ur suggestion is better
hmm dif folders for each project am not sure... shall we jst start it and if it becomes very busy with dif projects then create the dif subsections? cos if only a few going at a time, it should be okay? (with the threads clearly labelled)

I think you should if you can insha'Allah, its like a little puzzle to get into there.True about the different folders, yep, prob best to leave it for now unless it gets confusing later with more projects.

And about the people replying with random stuff, they can see most of the topics have no replies so they should click on..and maybe insha'Allah make the Ummah.com Quran Project one a sticky so they dont get lost?
