'Return from Terror'
The Bridge Foundation for Psychotherapy and the Arts, Bristol
Moazzam Begg in conversation with Jeremy Woodcock
10.00 am – 1.00 pm
The Mansion House, Clifton Down, Bristol BS8 3LJ
Chaired by Caroline Garland
In conversation with Jeremy Woodcock, there will be an exploration of a number of themes.
What is happening within our society that leads to the radicalisation of young Muslim men and women?
How may psychoanalysis make a helpful contribution to understanding some of these processes?
How as an individual does one survive the experience of internment in Guantanamo, without charge or trial, torture, and threat to life?
What comes after such an experience, and how can dialogue contribute to the understanding of, and a diminishing of dangerously polarised views?
Jeremy Woodcock is a family and marital psychotherapist, organisational consultant and member of the Bridge Foundation. He has worked as a refugee lawyer and was Consultant Family and Marital Therapist and Head of the Group Therapy Programme at the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture in London. Since moving to the South West he has supervised and consulted with many local organizations working with refugees and asylum seekers. He has written extensively and lectured at home and abroad on work with refugees, on understanding trauma within the framework of attachment theory and about therapeutic work with survivors of human rights violations.
