Umar Bin Al Khattab: "Why shouldn't I cry?"

Umar (may Allaah swt be pleased with him) once entered Prophet Muhammad's saw house and noticed the state of the furnishings in it. Muhammad saw himself had only one sheet of cloth round him to cover the lower part of his body. There was one simple bed with one pillow filled with nut fiber. On one side of the room was some barley and in one corner near his feet was an animal skin. There were some water-skins hanging beside his bed. `Umar (may Allaah swt be pleased with him)said that on seeing this tears came into his eyes. Allah's Messenger asked the reason for his tears. He replied..

"O Allaah's Messenger ! Why shouldn't I cry! The strings of the bed have left marks on your body. This is a small room with all your furniture, I can see what there is. The Byzantine Emperor and the Persian Emperor enjoy luxurious living while you, the Messenger of Allaah and the Chosen One, live like this."

He said, "Ibn al-Khattab! Don't you like that they choose this world and we choose the Hereafter?"

My Sisters & Brothers - Look at our life and our ingratitude towards Allaah swt. After getting so much of ease and comfort in our lives we still feel that we haven't been given much ! So Sad !
Look at the Eemaan of the pious that after so many hundred years it still makes us feel the warmth of Eemaan. SubhanAllaah.

May Allaah swt instill in our hearts the true Eemaan and which results in Amal e Saleh. Ameen

SAHIH MUSLIM
Book 039, Number 6773:
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Mughira b. Shu'ba and the words are: Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) kept standing in prayer (for such long hours) that his feet were swollen. They (his Companions) said: Verily, Allah has pardoned for thee the earlier and the later of thine sins. Thereupon he said: Should I not prove myself to be a grateful servant (of Allah)?

Sayyidina Umar radhiyallahu anh wept on that occasion when the Nabi :saw: was aloof from the Noble Wives - and Sayyidina Umar radhiyallahu anh came to cheer up Nabi :saw:.

Among the jokes that Hadrat made:

1. Oh Messenger of ALLAH. We, the company of Quraysh, are a people dominant over our women. Then we left our homes and came to a people dominated by their women. Our women have learnt from their women.

:rotfl: That made the Nabi :saw: smile.

2. Also part of the cause of difficulty for Nabi :saw: was that the Noble Wives had requested increase in pocket money.

Sayyidina Umar radhiyallahu anh said to the effect: Oh Messenger of ALLAH. If the wife of Ibn al-Khattab were to request an increase I would do nothing but ring her neck.

Again Nabi :saw: smiled.
