A Muslim child’s supplication
By Dr. ‘Allama Iqbal
A prayer emanates on my lips with desire,
My life replicates the sun, O Allah, I aspire!
Remove the worldly darkness with my vigour!
With my brilliance radiate all corners of the sphere!
Through my influence grant the ummah grace,
Like a flower grants a garden heavenly grace,
May my life take the plight of a moth, O Allah!
That I love the light of knowledge, O Allah!
Make my deeds to aid the destitute and poor,
To love those weak, so helpless and inferior,
O Allah, Almighty! Protect me from vice,
The path that’s righteous I walk so nice.
