It seems that many mosques are not allowing Nikkahs to be performed unless you have marriage certificate. I remember when my sister got married and she had a Nikkah and then a few years later she did the registery office ...Does anyone know of any mosques that allows you to do a Nikkah without having a marriage certificate?

You can have nikah done by an imam in ur own house you dont even have 2 have it in the masjid. we did ours in inlaw's place with an imam who is a family friend, and we didn't get the registry certificate til nearly 18 months after that. It doesn't have to be a problem. I think Regents Park they do ask for the certificate or they want to make the certificate or something, but maybe Finsbury Park wont or some other masjids wont? Im not sure but there are soo many masjids around im sure some won't mind about the registry certificate. That cert is kind of irrelevant to the actual nikah anyway and not an islamic requirement so I dont see why they would insist? But anyway if they do ask you to do the certificate at the same time, I guess its not a big deal as long as it doesn't cause delay or anything? It can be useful to have the certificate in future, because according to the UK law if not they might not regard you married, and i think it can have impact for example in hospital if ur husband was ill, you wont be classed next of kin or as a relative perhaps?
