I can understand if people dont eat certain things for a while, but isnt it actually HARAM to say that you will never eat a certain food type...
(cant remember the exact hadith, not gonna search for it cos i was just browsing and thought i'd post, inshaAllah someone will post the hadith) but didnt the Prophet salalahu alaihi wa salam say that he wouldnt eat something ever again...
And then Allah ta'ala revealed that it's not for Him salalahu alaihi wa salam to make things haram for himself etc...
And yes it's ok to go without things...Like if you don't buy something just because you don't like it ect...
But it's not permissable (if I remember the ahadith correctly) to say that you will NEVER eat eg eggs, dairy, fish etc...

Aye, you're on the right track, we just did that in the brothers vs sisters competition.
It was regarding honey, so the ayah was revealed "...lima tu7arrimoo maa a7allallahu laka..." "why do you forbid what Allah has permitted for you"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
And not so long ago also regarding this i quoted the ayah "yaa ayyhalazeena aamanudkhuloo fis silmi kaafah..." "oh you who believe enter into Islam completely" it was revealed because of hazrat ibn salaam radhiallahu ta'aala anhu, he was a jew that became a muslim, and camel meat was not permissable in his old religion and eating camel meat wasn't fardh in Islam, so he thought he'd make 3aml on both religions and not eat camel meat, but then that ayah was revealed to enter into islam completely and do not follow the footsteps of shaytaan.

No.
For instance lizards are permissable, yet rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam didn't eat it.
Whenever rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had a food that he didn't like then he wouldn't eat it.
I think I'm too addicted to meat cos' I was brought up on it but I'd really like to cut down the amount I eat for health reasons and if the option were available; I'd love to eat organic halal meat (and not eat meat apart from that). It's REALLY hard to get hold of and damn expensive (£10 is just the delivery charge, let alone the meat itself). I really don't trust the hormones and rubbish that's fed to battery raised animals these days; I'm sure it contributes to many common health problems these days:o (especially my own).

im lacto ovo..but i eat chicken and meat..fish is a no no..and i cant drink honey..
Well in this case I think by scientific definition, this is not vegetarian by any mean. A vegetarian normally do not eat any meat/fish product. I placed the Wikipedia link for more info
For sure honey is great away from any definitions for the numerous benefits upon the health. That's why Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) told about it in addition to dates.
P.S. I could not fix the mistake in the original post. The edit button is missing and I think this is because it's a poll

thats not quite right.
its okay to say "I'm NOT going to eat xxx" (whatever xxx is, even turnips lol)
its not okay to say "People shouldn't eat xxx" if xxx is a halal food. because you can't make haram what is halal.
Also sometimes it is necessary for Muslims to eat vegetarian, e.g. if there is no halal meat available where you live, or if the halal meat available is of doubtful origin, e.g. you suspect that the person slaughtering it wasn't doing it 100% halal.

how about witchety grubs? Aboriginal Australian delicacy - huge fat insect larvae, sometimes eaten raw and alive. (they wriggle down your oesophagus apparently)
Also I forget which tribe it was (did modules in anthropology at uni) but they ate honeycomb, dripping with honey, and the comb all full of bee larvae. (still alive)

If I'd got the chance at uni I may have tried the cooked variety, though nowadays I'd have to get a fatwa first, dunno if they're halal or not :p When I was at uni they didn't sound so gross as all that, but then I had been learning about hunter gatherer tribes for a while so I was used to the idea of insect larvae being eaten, plus the witchetty grubs that were cooked looked like large grey prawns. The honey one sounds the grossest though, cause you wouldn't eat lil mini prawns with honey would you :p ewwww!

I don't "want" to hear anything.
Usually I can see the logic in what is haram, even if I don't agree with it.
In this case, especially given the exception for locusts, it just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Not my logic...
Pigs, wild pigs especially, are highly prone to carrying harmful parasites.
Also the anthropomorphic characteristics attributed to swine in Islamic culture are all extremely negative. The desire to keep seperate from the taint of such characteristics.
Yes, but what is the reasoning? ...and why are locusts an exception?
The reasoning, and the evidence for them being haram?
I see no reason why, say, slugs should be haram - or ants (provided they're not poisonous!).
Insects aren't bad for your health, well not all anyway. Just like some fish are bad for your health, but not all.
And logic does have a lot to do with things being haram.
