As-Salaam Alakium,
yep masha Allah i was just talking to a new convert last week shes from the check republic, she felt the same way when she became muslim as did I. when we read Quran it was more a case of already believing what was written in the Quran before we became Muslim, than a case of having to adopt any kind of new belief Alhamdulillah.
I felt the SAME way...how about you?

Interesting question.
I think yes, in terms of the basis such as tawheed but i wouldnt say 100% because there are things in Quran which are necessary for our belief but we may not have known about these things before we read it, or might not have considered some things, or could have not known about certain prophets before.
Then for some people it would be something new if they come from polytheism or something different like that. Although there are alot of people these days who are not in that, but they believe in just one God but they dont follow anything specifically so for those perhaps they would not adopt a new belief as such but it could show them the correct way to channel their belief in God...
Czech Republic..:)
hehe jazakAllahu khairin thanks thats the one, i was wondering how u spell it
alhamdulillah u felt that too sis khadija for me it was just so easy everything suddenly fell into place, there was nothing i disagreed with even a man having other wives, once i studied it more fully just everything made so much sense, just perfect subhanAllah. I thought there is a God i knew that for sure, and his authentic teachings must still exist somewhere on this earth ( which is what i had been searching for in studying the texts of different religions since i was a kid ) and when i read the Quran all the pieces of the jigsaws of the other religions fell into place, all of them were mentioned in the Quran and all their flaws subhanAllah the flaws i had been noticing too, and no other book did that, no other book included all peoples, explained all issues of belief, no other book was authentic word for word since its revelation.
subhanAllah it was all in there ..from the hindus and how they claim they had the oldest religion, yes its very old,the principles of it going back perhaps to the 10th generation after prophet nuh the same principle of worshipping men as Gods, worshiping pious men and taking the word of men over the word of almighty god and being so arrogant in thinking that they have some kind of intercession or place beside God almighty but he is alone without partner la illaha il Allah. And everything that hadnt made sense to me in church like jesus being God and dying on a cross and trinity etc. all the truths of the matter explained in a clear and simple way subhanAllah, Alhamdulillah ..this Quran was for certain the word of Almighty God subhanAllah i cried, was like a home coming subhanAllah,
If you find this to be the case there are at least 2 things happening here;
1) Allah gives guidance to those who are desperate for the truth, nearly every Muslim, before they became Muslim were desperate to know the truth about the reality of life - when they find that truth and understand it, its a tremendous relief and appreciation, as well as a recognition that 'this was the truth all along'
2) Every human has a inbuilt "fitrah" which is a untranslatable word...the closest in English is probably "nature" or "essence". Every person is created to know God, so when the person becomes a Muslim and worships nothing except God, its a great sense of fulfillment, and from that point onwards they live a purposeful life, but really what they have done is gone back to their most natural state - because this in essence what they were created to do- to worship and know God.

Who said I was middle aged? PEople are reverting left and right MashAllah!:inlove:

Yes, I agree.
I have held Islamic beliefs since I was 17 years old but have just converted at now 26 years old. So, when I converted I felt like I was admitting something true to myself and about myself rather than changing beliefs. It's like coming home.

Why are most reverts middle aged caucasian individuals?
lol What a good sterotype!
Why are most reverts middle aged caucasian individuals?
and why do so many muslims stereotype reverts.... *sigh* thats been one of my biggest struggles coming to Islam to be accepted by other muslims. Im accepted in principle yes, but it seems that i shouldnt think for one minute that it means that i can freely marry amongst the born muslims, thats just not gonnna happen because born muslims say oh but "we have our culture" and " its just my preferance we marry our own kind " "oh in my family we only marry peole from our culture and countries" its pure jahil and certainly not from Islam and if i was to do the same and marry someone of my own culture then id never be able to get married as not one single man of my own culture has converted to Islam. i remember one kashmiri brother had to withdraw his proposal because his own brother tried to run him down in him car, and he said he would have been killed by his family if he married a white girl ...talk about making me feel like an outcast.
and im definately not middle aged, i was in my late 20`s when i reverted 7 years ago and the girl i know who just reverted is just a kid like u. another guy who reverted just 17 years old masha Allah, people are reverting all over, regardless of their colour or race and remaining muslim despite the stereotypes and were remaining muslim despite not being truely welcomed and accepted in everyway as equal as a born muslim by many. thats been the saddest bit for me i struggled so very hard to find the truth, and when i got there many who had been handed it on a plate dont seem to appreciate what they have been given and dont seem to want to safegaurd its bacis principles.

Agreed.
When i came to Islam i was always asking questions, well still am, on how to live like a muslim. Of course when entering any religion you have to adopt new beliefs.
Why are most reverts middle aged caucasian individuals?
I'm a casucasian, not middle aged though:D. Infact many of the reverts now are African Americans, SubhanAllah.
It's not a negative stereotype at all. From my experience; ofcourse there have been reverts from all over the spectrum of race and age but the vast majority of them have been middle aged caucasian women and men.
I'm just profiling.

that is not the common from what I know, well I mean many Arab bros marry converst, including my father.
but usually the problem isn't with the man, it can by from hsi mother, some mothers want their son to marry from his home country.
but some mothers let their son marry whomever he wants.
there are many born Muslims (Arab and non Arab) who marry converts, I know quite a few.
the bigger problem is with the born Muslim woman marrying a convert Muslim man, that is more like rare, it exists but very few.

Why are most reverts middle aged caucasian individuals?
Some of this can be blamed on demographics. I used to live in a white town (with very few people of ethnic minorities) where half the kids attending the masjid were mixed race, often having a white convert parent, whereas in my home town where the community is a lot more diverse (it's a mixture of mostly English, Pakistanis, Italians, Irish, Somalis, Bosnians and a handful of families from other races as well) so in my home town the converts are often of quite diverse racial backgrounds. I'm guessing if you went to somewhere like Brixton, you'd see a lot more black converts there and wonder where the white brothers are?
As for being middle aged, I can only think of two middle aged converts I know (and I've met many converts in my time). Alhamdullilah this Ummah and particularly the convert population is more diverse than you realise.

kay... here goes... ;)
lets start with before(around when i was 5)
-i was really religious, but my family wasn't, i wanted to go to church and be really involved, but my parents weren't like that, so i didn't, but i still felt really religious and close to god
-i went to church with my friend and my grandma sometimes, but not enough. i wanted to be really involved in the church(plus depending on who i went with, i went to a different church)
-i had childrens bibles and i liked to read the bible/prophet stories (they fascinated me)
i had a friend in middle school
-she was muslim but i didn't know it yet
-it was a new school so i didn't know anyone else really
-my friend wore hijab to school, but i hardley cared or took notice(and i can only remember her wearing it once, and she was either fixing it or taking it off)
-september 11th came
-fatima(my friend) was taken out of the school (but so were all the other brown kids and a few white kids)
-i got home on september 11th and i found out what happened
-muslims being cursed, called bad names
-my history teacher asked us about what we thought about what had happened(9/11)
-he specifically asked fatima questions (i think the conversation was about muslims)
-i went home-online-and tried to learn everything about islam(i was wondering how fatima and her family and 'her people' could be condemned for doing something so far away)
-hours of research about islam on the internet
-i began to understand islam better
-i realized that it was a lot like christianity
-i became interested
-fatima gave me a book(i think it was a general islam book from sunday school-i remember that it explained how to pray, and there was arabic words, transliteration, and the translation-she was showing off how well she could read arabic-everyone was amazed...she either had it memorized, or she really can read that fast...it was fast...)
-i took the book home, and was flipping through it
-there was an interesting page that looked interesting
-it detailed the shahada and its meaning
-i read it a couple of times
-then i read the page before it and i found out that if you say it it means you're muslim(or something to that effect)
-i felt really really guilty for reading it, but it felt right, so i tried to read it without meaning it, but it didn't work-i meant it, i believed it, and there was no hope against it
-this is when i knew that islam was what i needed
-and so on... now i'm here (fatima didn't find out that i was muslim for about a year and a half...it kinda shocked me that she didn't know... everyone else at our school knew...)
-i tried wearing hijab...(three- four times...the fifth time was the last attempt-and alhamduillah i've been wearing hijab since feburary 2006)
the end...kinda... :)

the bigger problem is with the born Muslim woman marrying a convert Muslim man, that is more like rare, it exists but very few.
hmmm... maybe it is because there are less male converts to islam??? 'cause otherwise(if they're not marrying convert women) who would they marry?

well I think (wallahu a'lam) that they are less than convert women, but they are not a small number.
and many of them do marry convert women
but actually it seems there is some kind of increase in number of Muslim born women marrying convert women, but still considered very small number compared to convert women marrying born Muslim men.
it seems in Morroco, there are quite a few Morrocon women marrying convert men.
in city I was in, a number of African American brothers (converts) went to Morroco and married Morrocon women.
but it is more rare in other countries.

i used to believe in sort of being good befor i reverted, like as in trying not to hert others and all, but really, Islam has sooooooo changed me for the better and has smartened me up a lot. i really did not know Allah at all and i sometimes didnt believe in God, or i thought God hated me. thats just caus of the bad consequences of not knowing right from wrong on a lot of things and now i understand things that i dont think i would ever have understood without Allah helping me and teaching me, alhamdulilllah.:)

This may just be the country/environment you live in or the families with whom you've had contact. Marrying reverts is common where I live and I have several friends who married reverts as well as revert friends who married Muslims mashallah.

they aren't. My mom was hardly a middle aged caucasian when she converted as with all her other friends who are converts.
