I was thinking that maybe this forum should have a section specific to biographies of Muslim personalities. I've seen the the bios of people like Ali Shamyl, Malcolm X, Mahmud of Ghazni, etc., but they're usually all over the place, Malcolm X in the General section, Ali Shamyl in Learn About Islam, etc. So I think that we should have a specific 'Muslim Personalities' section for posting information on famous Muslims. What do you all think?

Famous muslims...*smiles*
I think we could do with a section like this...But it would be like the current events forum...
lots of thread starts and views but no replies...
In terms of archiving its a good idea...

But one thing that i find interesting is ur choice of people to illustrate your point of famous muslims...

I think it would be interesting to find out who others think of as "muslim personalities"...

Well, I'm just giving the ones off the top of my head, ones that I remember seeing their biographies on this forum. The section would pretty much include any Muslim who the poster thinks is worthy of mention.

I think it will moreso be for educational purposes than discussion. I personally think that it would be a great addition to the forum, and a place where both Muslims and non-Muslims could learn about historical and contemporary Muslim personalities.

I think its not a good idea to have it sooo cut down just for these kind of posts. I do agree we should have a new section for a more open branch in which we can post islamic personalities in there.

Sounds good- have a 'Islamic History' section insha'allah and under that have 'Biographies'.

there is already something on Salam.co.uk website.

http://www.salaam.co.uk/knowledge/biography/bio_home.php

a good resource people can contribute to if there is anyone missing.

I don't see the need to have one on ummah...if people are just going to copy and paste from other websites. It is not necessary to collect all those on ummah forum when they are already being collected elsewhere, and its not nice to simply pinch someone else's work to host somewhere else.

and secondly, these personalities are NOT celeberities that we are going to have a collection and marvel over how great they were. There are lessons to be learnt from their lives, and anyone interested in those lessons can learn from whereever the thread is and whereever it is most suited.

so, I dont see the need.

Does this mean they'll be an entire section devoted to me?

Right..I'd like a banner, preferably made using flash, reading "Welcome fans..Kal is your friend" with a cheeky yet disturbing fake smile next to that.

And I'd like "Donate" everywhere on my page please.

Its a good idea but more generally wouldn't it be nice to have a Muslim History section? :)

There is no specific place to discuss Islamic history on ummah.com, which in my opinion is one of the most important topics for all Muslims.

This is a good idea. Is this exclusive only to the converts? Or Muslims in general?

And Muslims REALLY need to take more interest in their own history. We shouldn't rely on orientalists to tell us about our own history.

This is quite a serious issue, as many afrocentrists are spreading falsehoods about Islamic influence in Africa, to stop the conversion of Western Blacks.

And as we are all aware, the Eurocentrists have been doing the same thing for centuries.

Well, why not?

It's better to have people marvelling over Alija Izetbegovic and Izzedin al-Qassam than footballers and Bollywood stars.

Just because people don't post about it doesn't mean they aren't doing it.
