Is there a need for you to look for hotels in Makkah and Madinah?
If you intend to perform Umra the licensed agent, through whom you get your visa, usually arrange the package for you. A good agent will allow you to choose the standard and get it for you.
Those arranging visa only will, name you hotels, but leave you to make the arrangement of booking yourself.
To get rooms in a 5 star hotel in Makkah is next to impossible be that through a licensed agent or direct.

Jazakallah Ismail Bhai. When i did my Hajj with Bashir Chocawala in 2004 - we stayed at Jabar ul umar and Elaf Tayiba. (Jabar ul umar doesn't exist anymore).
When we did Umrah last year - we organised everything ourselves. Meaning got the flight from Person A, Hotel and Visa from Person B, Transportation in Makkah/Madina etc from Person C etc. As there was 10 of us going - this was very cost efficient and ulhamdolillah went very well. The hotels we stayed at was Firdous Makkah and Dallah Tayiba.
This year inshallah we are doing umrah again. We bought are flights last week from yourtravelshop and most likely will get our hotels and visa from Iqbal Bhaimiya (Kidmah Travel) - related and also my dad did umrah/ramadhan last year with Iqbal bhai.
Iqbal Bhai have suggested a few hotels and we have selected Firdous Makkah and Harthiya Sheraton. However i was looking for websites that would show other hotels so we can get a rough idea.
Salaam

Assalamo Alaikum WR
Seems like you managed very well last year. This year should be no different except that the agent who got you your visa "may" require you to give him hotel confirmation so that he can satisfy his contractor's demand as per the latest ministry of haj's regulations.
Mention my name to Iqbal Bhaimiya and see what he says !!!!!!! Tell him to organise your hotel confirmation for you.
I suggest you stick with Dallah Taiyaba in Madinah - although this one now needs serious refurbishment - as it is very close to the Haram and reasonably priced.
Alternatively, if you want better standard with similar rates try "Al Harithiya" or "Diyar Al Khair" (Al Andalus group) both of which are similar distance but much much more superior in standard.
In Makkah, the Firdaus Group hotel's advantage is their close proximity to the Haram otherwise there is nothing else about them to write home about or posting on this forum !!!!
Better standard hotels and REALLY 4 Star, in Makkah are:
Dar Nadwa (Al Masa Group) behind Hilton.
Dar As Salam..(leased by Malaysians) behind Elaf Kindah in Misfala..Very good.
Elaf Al Huda with doors on both Khalid bin Walid and Jabal Kaba streets.
3 Star standard and cheaper then Firdaus Group are:
Al Jazeera on Khalid Bin Walid.
Aziz Plaza on Jabal Kaba.
Al Moazzin on Khalid Bin Walid.
Al Masa'a (Not Al Masa) in Misfala after Bakka Baiti.
Al Maqam on Ajyad Al Soud facing the Royal Palace.
Enough said .
Was Salam
