Ok I know this is going to sound like a silly question but when you consider a potential spouse what size would you perceive them to be fat at? Or overweight whichever. Would it deter your decision of how you think of them? or is it a non meaningless thing? is body size/shape important?
This is a serious question :p

yeh but like is it something that would instantly put you off. Be honest, its nothing to be ashamed some people would, other not its a respectable indivisual choice, its just fascinating what people percieve to be fat /thin

fat as such isnt important...they gotta be able to do stuff and be active, potentially in the future look after the children etc. and if they so inactive and cant do that then it wud be a problem.
but to marry/reject sumone on their weight is quite shallow...what if they put on weight later...then waht?

To me chubby is not fat, fat is a big belly/body like the cat one may say.
Would it affect my choice...maybe so...not if he was chubby, but maybe if he was fat...
hough ive heard of many peeps(males) that become fat after they get married...Apparently it's coz their wives feed them DELICIOUS food :D

masha Allah but we have to remind ourselves as wives not to cook too much food, and waste too much time in the kitchen :
Narrated Ibn 'Umar:
Allah's Apostle said, "A believer eats in one intestine (is satisfied with a little food), and a kafir (unbeliever) or a hypocrite eats in seven intestines (eats too much)." ( muslim )

allahu alam i dont know about the first part akhi, yes masha Allah we have many lovely hadith on eating habits of a muslim masha Allah
the prophet salallahu alleyhi wa salam said "The food for two persons is sufficient for three, and the food of three persons is sufficient for four persons." He also said that, "the believer must fill his stomach with one third water, one third air and one third food "(al Bukhari)
and he salallahu alleyhi wa salam said, " The son of Adam fills no vessel more displeasing to Allah than his stomach. A few morsels should be enough for him to preserve his strength. If he must fill it, then he should allow a third for his food, a third for his drink and leave a third empty for easy breathing." ( at tirmidhi)
‘Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: “From the time of their arrival in Madina up until his death, the family of Muhammad never ate their fill of bread made from wheat three nights in a row.” ( al bukhari)

...or because they have more stress to deal with - especially with more children and when problems arise, food is the answer. Married people care less about their body weight or take it for granted because they are already married and less excitement and less motivation to get in shape. In other words, lazy. :p
Going back to the original question, would I marry an overweight person? Not really. I am not superficial but I would not be attracted to an overweight person. When I say overweight, I mean obese. A little thick I might be able to handle but obese no - reason being that I enjoy the outdoor life - horses - walking - that kinda thing and I need a fairly fit person to keep up with me - which unfortunately an overweight person may not be able to.
Even more importantly, though, is the fact that he would not be good role model to our future children. If I want my children to understand that eating healthy (and eating to fuel your body -- not eating for the wrong reasons), and exercising daily, are important things that every person should do, then I need to be with someone else who also models those values. I will Inshallah become a Dietician/Nutritionist in the future and marrying someone who is obese, is contrary to everything I will value and practice in my life.
I understand the comments that some members have made - that it shouldn't matter what a person looks like and that not marrying someone because they are fat is just another form of bigotry...they should not be judged based on their weight. I respect that. I also understand that not all overweight people are lazy, dirty, or unhealthy. Further more some people who are obese may have a medical condition which causes them to either gain weight or hinders their ability to lose weight.
Inshallah before I get married I would like to know someone and their habits before making a snap judgement based on their weight. We never know what Allah has planned for us for the future.

i think people should avoid stating on here what kind of physiques they have...errm..ok thats all.....:outta:
Doesn't really matter. They'll gain weight within a few months after the wedding anyway..

An old school friend proposed to a girl. He got to learn her family and he got on well with them - she then came back with her answer and it was a No.
He was devastated and asked why. She said she wanted a "built" guy. He wasn't fat or skinny, somewhere in the middle and he was a pretty fit guy from what I remember.
She on the other hand was kinda chubby - but he didn't mind.
So yea it's hypocritical from her side. In essense, she rejected him for being unattractive whilst she was herself unattractive.

fat is relative, a 5'8 sister and 5'2 sister can both weigh the same, but the latter would look fat and the former not. so height plays a massive roll (haha get it?)
moving on........
when ones pacs turns in2 one roll that its isnt fat
HOWEVER............when one cant see down there now thats fat.
thats the only way i can put it.

Q: What is fat?
Fats consist of a wide group of compounds that are generally soluble in organic solvents and largely insoluble in water. Chemically (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemistry), fats are generally triesters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ester) of glycerol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycerol) and fatty acids (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatty_acid). Fats may be either solid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid) or liquid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid) at normal room temperature (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperature), depending on their structure and composition. Although the words "oils (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil)", "fats" and "lipids (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipid)" are all used to refer to fats, "oils" is usually used to refer to fats that are liquids at normal room temperature, while "fats" is usually used to refer to fats that are solids at normal room temperature. "Lipids" is used to refer to both liquid and solid fats. (The word "oil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_%28disambiguation%29)" is used for any substance that does not mix with water and has a greasy feel, such as petroleum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum) (or crude oil) and heating oil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heating_oil); regardless of its chemical structure.)
Fats form a category of lipid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipid), distinguished from other lipids by their chemical structure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_structure) and physical properties. This category of molecules is important for many forms of life, serving both structural and metabolic functions. They are an important part of the diet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_%28nutrition%29) of most heterotrophs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterotroph) (including humans).
