Asalamu Alaykum
I am useless at getting a job thats halal!
I went for a tesco one and it was a checkout operator and i knew that we can't touch haram goods or transact them etc BUT i went and did the interview, told the personnel manager that i couldn't do that full well knowing i couldn't do the job :D thats when my interview came to a stop lol she told me that I can't possibly do the job but seeing as i did really well in the interview she'll keep my file on for a clothing department vacancy. Smart move huh?
BUT i mean its so hard for me to get a job as a muslimah which isn't working in a male dominant job like mobile phone shop or selling haraam goods because I would be employed right now trust me!
Any muslimahs/muslims out there finding it hard too? Also I know there's law to stop discrimination against not recruiting people which wear hijaabs, turbans etc but c'mon now do you really think thats the case with all these problems going on in the world facing muslims?
Oh and btw when it comes down to it there are a lot of jobs which you may think aren't haram as your not selling pork or alcohol but still there are like card shops eg clinton cards, muslims shouldn't work there selling cards for pagant celebrations which are innovations etc. So jobs out there are kinda limited especially if you young like me and got little experience.
End of the day i want halal money with baraqah so i can give zakaat etc!
sorry if i wrote too much its in my nature!

My past part time jobs have included working in pharmacies, hospitals and department stores? I don't think I would have any of the problems you posted so maybe those are a few options for you?

ive had a job advertised for 3 weeks now, and i cant find a suitable person for the job, probably because it needs some niche industry skills. Had a few muslim applicants, but the communication and english skills as shown on their CV are poor, although it would seem they have the required skill set or qualification ( part) and people whove applied generally sound dull too, ive also been examining them via my "special test", which people cant seem to pass lol. ( the test is not actually hard either ).
what job is it?:D

go to high street recruitment agnecies and try there
Try Islamic schools and businesses perhaps. I find that strict Muslims find it easiest when they're self employed. If you can drive, consider becoming an instuctor for sisters. Think laterally inshallah.

Regarding touching haraam foodstuffs, is that really not allowed ?

Asalamu Alaykum.
Yes it is haraam as you are helping muslims(who do drink etc) and non muslims in their sinful act. If you din't sell it to them they are less likely to sin correct? Yes. Haraam isn't just the physical touh for your own benefits but for others too.
“Help you one another in Al‑Birr and At‑Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression”
[al-Maa'idah 5:2]
Bear with me and i'll look for a fatwa soon inshAllah

mashaALLAH Bint Yusuf
make du'a and ALLAH Ta'ala will open the rizq in your home inshaALLAH. Tilawah of Suratul Waaq'iah is also extremely beneficial in acquiring halal income.
You know your little story about tesco reminded me of one of the incidents with one of our Teachers. Shaykh hafizahullah was looking for work and I was told that when I go jobcentre to have a look for any suitable vacancies for Shaykh. I mentioned in my foolishness that Shaykh they always have vacancies at Morrisons/Asda etc and Shaykh replied smiling to the effect that I know but they also serve alcohol and pork and although the fatwa is complicated the ruling of taqwa is to abstain.
I'm a follower, a sheep and I need examples of righteousness to follow. In all honesty I myself was looking for work there, keeping the fatawah of the Muftis in sight, but after hearing of the tawakkul and taqwa of my Ustadji alhamdulillah I also followed.
So mashaALLAH good example Lady Bint Yusuf.

:masha: who said akhy, those with taqwa dont need a fatwa?
I work in retail for about 4 hours (Sainsburys), I left on my first day, this was my first job when I finished secondary school. I feel ashamed of having to sellout my beliefs for money. The first 4 hours it was a horrible experience and then on my lunch on a Friday, I wanted to pray Jumma, but the manager said I cant because my luch is over at 1.00 and I'm due back on the shop floor, that was the last he ever saw of me :)
