What d'ya ppl think about this campaign... a clever money-making scheme or a real attempt to change the perception of beauty?

I support it. DOVE is a real good company and it only sells natural products. I like its attempt to change the perception of beauty. All though the commercial is disgusting, but yea i support it.
nah they are not natural...erm..panther..u created a girly thread :I

I think they are genuinely trying to redefine the concept of beauty... but its also an advertising scheme. If they redefine beauty so that women who don't look like supermodels (i.e. 99.9% of us!!) feel better about ourselves and more beautiful and more appreciated for the shape we are we are more likely to buy their products.
However I won't be buying them because a) hijab takes me out of the "fashion/having the right body image" thing anyway and b) I'm allergic to the vast majority of cosmetics anyway  yay for E45 and simple

ewww dont support them a bunch of ladies wearing nothing but their undies....
imagine your in the car with your parents and your stuk at the traffic light
and there's the big bill board of the barely-there ladies in everyone's face.
WHERE do you look?
and the tv ads...."theres wobbly bits and bobbly bits...." ok, fine, but i dont wanna SEE the jiggly bits being flashed in my face! Looks worse than my mum's kheer
I hate you dove

LOL! ^^
I agree, it's disgusting seeing fat women expose their fat like that.
Dove products are rubbish.
lol. i think the sales pitch of dove being a 'natural' product because they fill their stuff in white bottles is phoney. For a start their moisturisers are heavily perfumed. "Simple" has truly simple products that are safer for people with these sensitivities.
As for the ad, well it makes a change from the usual anorexics but I agree with summer, there's no excuse for having ads showing off everyones bits. Vaseline intensive care is the other annoying one:rolleyes:

aww sis dhakiyya we like opposites :p im allergic to E45 cream  weird i know.
I dont like this campaign for real beauty. Yes beauty comes in different sizes (just not obese) and hair colours and eyes etc etc, but do we really need to see women of all shapes and sizes in their underwear prancing around? I think its more of a campaign to get more women naked, cos as far i havent seen a single campaign for real beauty with guys in it. (not that i want to)
And like dhakiyya said, its just their money making scheme.

Its just a "new" marketing strategy.
Here's a point:
Isn't it sexist to imply "real beauty" has to involve "real nudity". But then if you said that to a Kafir they'll prance a bunch of scantly clad men around to show 'balance'- DUH! When will they wake up:rolleyes:

The advertisement is "interesting" in the sense that its different from the others standard type adverts. I think alot of people on the forum did actually like one video which they produced about airbrushing and photo editing; the "no wonder our perception of beauty is distorted." one.
Also I think they made a foundation like a charity or something to deal with self esteem issues, probably eating disorders and the such like.
In a way the campaign is something positive because it counteracts the majority of images coming through to the young girls in the media, but on the other hand we have to realise that they are doing this purely as advertising and its not a selfish thing they thought "oh let's make a charity, lets challenge ideas within the society" and whatever, they did it because they want to persuade more people to buy their stuff. That can't be forgotten.
I'm also not so keen on these adverts where women are prancing around in their underwear, its not something necessary and it does lack modesty but then we can not say like they are the only company doing this. Many advertising campaigns feature people who forgot to put their clothes on, so they are not unique in this.
However some of the adverts are not including that, they do have some on the face only. For example they had one with an elder ladies face, and a very freckly ladies face. That is okay its not lacking in any decency and its nice to recognise that elder lady could still have her own form of beauty, because 99% of the other similiar adverts are more based towards "remove wrinkles, remove grey hair", but old people are not necessarily ugly. The age in their face can show wisdom and experience and we should respect them so showing in a positive light is something better I guess. Same with the freckled girl, its not a defect to be freckled thats how Allah swt made people. If the idea of the campaign is to remind that there is diversity in beauty, and beauty in diversity then this is a nice message. However the underwear adverts are needless, the rest of them are alright :)
