Ali Aboud, Al-Riyadh I have never heard smokers brag about how tasty tobacco is, or how good it smells, or the advantages smoking provides to the body. Smokers and nonsmokers can agree that tobacco is harmful. As a nonsmoker, I have never understood how smoking is worth the toll on health. Smoking is a profound danger to public health. It is the No. 1 killer.
Smoking kills a million people a year in Europe, many of them victims of second-hand smoke. Increasingly, Europe and American states are instituting smoking bans. (France and New York City recently joined this club.) Prohibition would reduce smoking considerably, too.
Western countries have made great progress in reducing the number of smokers in their societies. John Britton, professor of respiratory medicine at the University of Nottingham, put it best: “We want to witness smoking change to an exceptional habit instead of a normal one.”
In developing countries, the story is quite different. In addition to poverty, illiteracy, and unhealthy living conditions, these countries suffer from alarmingly high numbers of smokers. Government complacency is part of the problem.

Have you seen what kind of enviroment these places are? I dont know about North but in London, we have scantily clad sister with losers smoking this rubbish these places are whore houses

There is no differnce of opinion with me, maybe the scholars who made this Makrooh declaration didn’t have the scientific evidence at the time, the Khutbah (The evils of smoking) - by Abu Saifillah which I listened to deals with this very argument brother, if I can find it I will upload it
The evidence:
Islam is a Revelation from Allah with a complete code of life. It tells what is good and what is evil: Allah says in the Holy Quran: And We have shown him (man) the two ways (good and evil). (Quran 90/10)
He allows them all that is good and lawful, and prohibits them as unlawful all that is evil (things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, drinks, etc.). (Quran 7/157)
So, is smoking (cigarettes, pipes, etc.) evil or not? Let us examine its effects:
* Smoking is a killer: causes lung-cancer, lung-tuberculosis and heart diseases.
Allah says: And do not kill yourselves. (Quran 4/29)
He also says: And do not throw yourselves into destruction. (Quran 2/195)
These verses are sufficient to make smoking Haram.
* Smoking is a wasting of wealth. Allah says: ...But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift, Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the
devils, and the Devil (Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord. (Quran 17/26-27)
* The smoker is unjust to himself as well as his family by burning away his money and his chest!
* The smoker not only causes harm to himself, he/she also inflicts harms upon others around him/her.
The Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm." (Saheeh Al-Jami 7517)
* The smokers cause the spread of evil; they smoke openly and thus encourage others to do the same.
* The smokers dislike fasting and praying because they become impatient. They want to go for the next "round". The smoker becomes like an edict.
* The smoker smells bad! His car, home, clothes etc. carry the bad smell too.
From the above, it is clear that smoking is evil and thus it is Haram (unlawful).
If you are under any kind of stress, then turn to Allah, read the Holy Quran, and be with non-smokers. Seek Allah's help and don’t be enslaved to something that burns you and your money.

Sheesha doesnt smell too bad,actually it smells alright,I just dont like the environment in which sheesha is taken,in these cafes infested with asians..guys and girls all sitting together,trying to see who can blow the wierdest shapes..loool..

There is no doubt my brother that a major group of ulama have declared it haraam but there are still some who keep it in the same category as paan, caffeine and have tobacco as makruh. ALLAH Ta'ala knows best.

Smoking is damaging to health and I think those scholars have got it right to make it haram. However, the problem is that when smoking first became a public thing the cigarette makers spent alot of time hiding the dangers of smoking. Numerous clinical trials have now shown that cigarettes do lead to cancer and other lung diseases I just think this message has not gotten through yet.
On the note of smokers in muslim countries-dont know whether anyone was aware but the cigarette companies sell cigarettes at rock-bottom prices in those countries so people get hooked. With conditions so bad and no health promotion schemes to get people of cigs-the consequence is alot of muslims hooked on a very dangerous habit....

Sheesha is regarded as haraam by some ulema and makrooh by others, both views regard it as sinful.
Prevention is better than cure, why get addicted to something that is sinful? you know how hard it is to leave an addiction.

A Muslim should not quit because the government bans smoking. You should quit because you are harming yourself and those around you, you are committing suicide indirectly. Surely any person would understand that, no matter how addictive smoking is.
This topic isnt a joke, far to many people up in here laughing and joking abt.
if u are a smoker, and u are joking abt like this, u need to reflect how can u change when the reality of what u do hasnt hit home yet? smoking doesnt even seem like a big deal. muslims losing hayaa over this issue and not caring at all? something aint right.
i know smokers who fear their lord, and know that their addiction is keeping them away from reaching their potential 2 become a muhsin. the very thought of what they do, lingers in the mind and at times keeps them awake. these are muslims with potential 2 succeed, muslims who are beating u in the race to jannah, muslims whose sin isnt fair seeming. do u not care?
this topic isnt funny brothers and sisters, if u smoke show some respect to Allah by keeping ur deed to urself and at least acknowledging its wrong,instead of boasting abt it as if its ok and cool. perhaps ur posts make one who is considering 2 quit & feeling guilty abt it, think well actually maybe it isnt that much of a big deal afterall.
it is better Allah sees u trying 2 stop a sin and failing rather than sinning and not trying 2 stop at all.
