Wha? Wha? Where did you hear that?!
I know they're looking to open it around March 15th but because of the talks with Iran?? And they'll be stopping visas?! Hmmm.

yah 'cus my fam and i have been given our passports back....(and we're suppose to be going on the 30th..)
also somepple had already paid a desposit for saudi airlines for umrah for around march 20th and now have been told that its very unlikely they will be able to go on the 20th and also gues what they wont get a refund for the deposit they have already paid
(and it says in small print on the ticket not to purchase the ticket before the visa)

But how do you know they might stop giving out visas? I know someone who works with a travel operator and that's the first I've heard.
Saudis are known for pooshacking with opening visas etc.

Grand Makkah is NOT a 5 star hotel. If anything, it is a glorified 4 star hotel. The only advantage they have is its location. Just open your bedroom window and join the congregational salah!!!!
The rooms are very small.
The only actual 5 star hotels in Makkah are:
Dar Tawheed - very expensive and little prospect of getting rooms.
The new Zam Zam Tower. - Excellent and good rates too.
Meridien. A bit of uphill walk though.
Sofitel. Same as Meridien - uphill walk to hotel entrance.
Sheraton. A bit of a walk.
Saraya. Next to Sheraton.
Makkah Hilton - Glorified 4 star standard.
Palestine Hotel. Too far to walk.
The Coral (ex Hyatt) you will need a taxi to go to Haram
And that's all the 5 star hotels.
There are:
Ajyad Makkah - very good 4 star plus but far.
Elaf Ajyad - same as above.
Elaf Huda - Very good 4 star.
Al Masa - Good 4 star.
Dar al Salam - Very good 4 star.
Elaf Kindah - Good 4 star but dusty due to the construction work in front of it.
Dar Nadwa - 4 star.
Makkah Towers - 4 star.
People are circulating all kind of rumours about umra visa delayed because of Iran etc. No such thing at all. It is simply just the Saudi apathy of trying to introduce more regulations to make it difficult for poorer people to come for Umra, that's what it is.
As a licensed agent, I know because I deal with them all the time.
