Fiqh (Islamic Law) is one of the fundamental sciences of Islam, yet it is a subject area that raises much discussion, disagreements and differences amongst the Muslim community. This course aims to help students realise the importance of Islamic Fiqh as an actual means of uniting the Muslim community by providing a brief overview of the historical development of Islamic Law and its Schools of Thought.

Course contents include: Definition of Shariah and Fiqh, Divisions of Islamic Fiqh, Types of Islamic Rulings (Ahkam), Islamic Law during the Prophet's Era (peace be upon him), Fiqh and the Companions' Era, Emergence of Fiqh Schools, Differences in Understanding - Etiquettes of Disagreement. Course is suitable for anyone wanting clarification on the common accusations and misconceptions against Islamic Law and the status of the Schools of Law (Madhahib). All welcome and notes will be provided.
