View Full Version : Gender-Segregated Schooling
How many of you support gender-specific schools (ie: boys-only and girls-only)? I think that both boys and girls, but specifically girls, do academically better in gender-segregated schools.
i do, boys perform better if they segregated from the girls. same with girls.. they should bring back the segregated schools. but dont think they will goverment dont want children to succeed.. they want them to be dum..Its what they trying to do..
If u look at the islamic schools, they are perforing 10 times better than these kaafir schools. .Time to bring back the segregated school..

I don't know... coming from a non islamic background my experience is that many people that went to single sex schools then "EXPLODED" the moment they got out if you know what I mean...
...probably because they had no idea on how to relate to the opposite sex, so it should be different if the single-sex school is a muslim one...
I went to a mixed school, never did me any harm but i think it would be nice if schools were segregated! Maybe girls would come to learn instead of impressing the ugly guys!
studies have shown that segregated schools in general do better
you just have to look at most of the top schools in the country
girls will do better (in general) but boys do better in a segregated environment than a mixed

That's a concern, yes. But I would assume that most people would do other social activities outside of school, even if just hanging out at the mall, so one would learn how to interact with the opposite sex if they were interested in it..
I would expect that Muslims in gender-segregated schools would not have that problem, though. Or at least I would hope..

Some schools are already doing this in the states. The girls that was interviewed on camera even said they liked it better. They concentrate more, theres not as much trouble in schools and the grades are btter. Mashallah i think there should be more schools like that.

same here :)
sometimes people that go to gender-segrated schools go to college's which are mostly mixed and act really stupid :S because they have never been around the opposite gender before, its like a fat kid in a cake shop
I went to a mixed school (it did not effect me), however the public segregated schools in my area seemed worse than mixed schools in terms of how far they do go to attract the opposite sex; at times they seemed worse than animals. Not to mention they were morally and ethically worse because of how desperate they were, either that or it's because most of them are of bedouin origin. :o But of course that's all down to their religious upbringing - which seems to be slowly fading in a lot of Arab countries.
MMS, I agree. Most of the Saudi's in my University are the same way, you cannot even tell they are Saudi except by their language - other than that they seem even more astray in their behaviors than the locals.

You certainly have a way with allegories..
i said maybe because it doesn't matter much when children are younger, certainly their schooling isnt interupted because they're obsessed by the opposite sex. in fact little boys usually think little girls are disgusting, yuck etc
but definetely after primary school age i support gender segregated schooling 100% because this is when children start to develop.

Well said.
I don't think it's absolutely necessary to segregate during elementary school (that's Kindergarten to G5 where I'm from), but, as brother Makki said, once the children reach puberty, which I think averages around age 10, which would be G5 where I come from, it is necessary to start segregation.

I'm a product of co-ed. alhamdulillah, nothing bad happened throughout my school years though, it's just that i hated some boys lol. had enough games with boys when i was small, with them i got to play something rough and boyish like football, imaginary battles and flying kites:D, and boys mostly were neve sulky, they never bothered to compete, all just games and having fun:D. , when growing up started to feel that their presence or absence in school didnt bother me. when you have no choice but send your children to co-ed school then you have to give extra education and reminder from time to time to your children at home. That's what my parents did, they trust me alhamdulillah and i dont come from strict family with lots of prohibitions.. and I havent transgressed so far and I'm just not into "some stuff" and I hope Allah will always keep me this way. Amin.

A local public school has moved to a segregated system for grades 5 to 7(10-12 year olds) and found that in the 2 years, the average grades for the classes have gone up. This was in the local paper recently. It was something along the lines of 11% for the boys and 7%.
They have decided to continue with it and now the high school is thinking of trying the same thing as the kids move through the school system to see if it's a sustainable increase

According to many sociological studies, Boys do better in a mixed environment whereas girls do better in an all girls environment.
I went to a girls school and alhamdulilah did really well.
I went to college and flopped cos i was too busy hiding from yucky boys.

here in my country, girls who are in an all-girls' school become 'crooked'. As in, they become lesbians. Some girls due to the lack of guys, take up the boy's role. They start to dress & behave like boys. In singapore we have a lament term of butch or bung. That's why i dont quite like a mixed school.
The guys are fine in their school. But the girls become crooked. Not all. But usually 20% of the population become lesbians. As they grow older they become 'straight' though, & lead a normal life.
Is this common in other countries as well?

no. i remember while i was in school, there were 2punky gothic girls that were openly lesbians. that's all. i do think that's a bit of a generalisation to think that a certain percentage of girls will become lesbians. eww

yes thats true. i went to mix christian school but it had all faiths. its jus a confusing topic.if you go mix school bad things happen if you go segregated school still same thing it depends on every individual and how there parents raise them but also gota be wary of the company you keep

A couple of Guys and Girls transferred from single sex schools to the coed school I went to. All of them were deviates of some description.
Of course that might have had something to do with why they transferred, as opposed to the fact that they were from single sex schools.
Mind you the local catholic all boys school did have a reputation for producing homosexuals and thieves.

Joys of being a teacher huh! ;) well.... its got to be done.
I went to a mixed school.. didnt do me any harm whatsoever.. there was probably also a totla of 10 muslims in my school not including my cousins :smack: again.. never did me any harm... amazingly enouhg- my mum used to work in a girls only school which had a boys only school right next to it (yeehh very logical).. interesting tales she used to come home and tell us.
Its not just the school environment that needsa to be taken into account.. what the child is taught outside of school is just as if not more important.
I went to an all girls and im not 'crooked' as luqman Haqq put it :p
There were a few girls though I have to admit..
IMO im glad I went there, a time i remember I didn't...I would have loved to go to a co-ed but. It's a fact boys+girls=distraction, fitna whatever ya wanna call it...spesh at that age..
I go t ixed college and when I see how people are easily dstrcted in lessons I just think man im glad I managed to be away from it during high school.
Then again, even back then I d be distarcted by guys..soimagine whta it'd be like if iI was with them in lessons?
Even though there is a lot of male/female attention at the gender-segreagted schools, you will find that but even so people have more of a reason to work!
salaam
gender segragated is soooo great. i went to islamic scool in my city for 3 yrs and guys and girls were split it was just so great but by the time i got to public high scool i was too afraid to sit in the desk beside a boy i couldnt do it i felt REALLLYYYY uncomfortable just talking to one about a group project or something  not saying its a bad thing though but ppl thot i was weird :p at first

i wish if the universities of pakistan were not based on co education.
and u know the boys hate the co education becoz in universites teachers usualy give preference to girls over boys and becoz of it girls get the top positions.
and i have the same situation in my class although we are better than girls we r best in model making than girls, we r best in designing than girls inshort in every field of architecture but still they get the top positions and we wonder how?
