In the name of Allah the Merciful the Compassionate
Ways of Seeking Knowledge by Saleh Al Fawzan (may Allah have mercy on him)
In the name of Allah The Merciful The Compassionate.
The praises are to Allah The Lord of The Worlds. And may peace and blessings be upon our prophet Muhammed, and his family, and companions, all of them. What comes after.
The ways of seeking knowledge. This is legislated by the Islamic law. Included in this is knowledge, and teaching. There is no doubt that learning knowledge is the most virtuous of actions; because the knowledge is the evidence for the actions. The actions are not correct except by knowledge and proof. And this is righteous actions. If actions are done without knowledge, then it is misguidance. If the actions are done without knowledge and evidence from the Quran and sunnah, it is misguidance, and it is innovation(bidda).
Said (May Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), " Whoever does an action that is not from our affairs, it is rejected."
Allah the Majestic and High says, {"Know that there is no god except Allah; ask forgiveness for your sins, and the believing men and believing women." }
This begins with knowledge, that there is no god except Allah, then it says to ask for forgiveness; i.e. action. Ask forgiveness for your sins, and the believing men, and the believing women.
The muslims, it is an obligation on them to learn, so that they will be able to do actions on the guidance. Allah the Majestic and High has sent his messenger with guidance and the true religion. The guidance is the beneficial knowledge. The true religion is the righteous actions. The messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings, was sent for two reasons. He was not sent for actions only; and he was not sent for knowledge only; verily he was sent for two reasons; knowledge and action.
These are the foundations of the Islamic law, which state that it is obligatory to teach the people the commandments of their religion; until it is clear.
On the ways to seek knowledge, it is through these foundations as well as other than them.
Seeking knowledge:
First, one should correct their intention, and sincereity to Allah The Powerful and Majestic. He would like to seek knowledge for the countenance of Allah, and repayments and rewards. The seeking of knowledge is an action.
The prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, said,"Verily the actions are by the intention. Verily for every person is what he intended."
So let him make sincere his seeking of knowledge for Allah, The Powerful and Majestic. He should not want to learn for showing off, and fame, and not want the worldly desires; and not want a position for him amongst the people. Verily he should want the countenance of Allah, and the rewards of Allah, Glory be to Him the High.
It is obligatory on a person that sets out to seek knowledge, to make sincere his intention for Allah, The Powerful and Majestic.
