I may be going out on a limb here, but I think the lyrics to this nasheed are really patronising. It automatically assumes that if someone is physically disabled then they are somehow worse off than the non-disabled. Consider, a disabled person, how would they feel listening to this nasheed? I feel that the nasheed lyrics fail to take into account anything other than the physical matter, what of the events in a person’s life? A fully functioning person maybe suffering torture in there own home, whereas a disabled person may lead content and fulfilled life, for example. Unfortunately, I feel that this nasheed reflects the growing attitudes of the Muslim Ummah today regarding disability. That disability is something that should be pitied and only whispered quietly about. Having criticised the nasheed so greatly I must state that the overall message, that we should be grateful for what we have, is a message to be commended. Just in my opinion, such a message could have been implemented through a better choice of lyrics.
