Salam Alikom

I have been muslima for 2 1/2 years now. I come from a huge catholic family in south Louisiana USA. My family is still having a hard time with the fact I left the catholic church and that now I am a muslima. To cover around my family has been a struggle to say the least. Certain members of my family have made remarks. I love covering. I do not do this for my husband or anyone else I only cover for Allah SWT. I also want to let you know I became muslim on my own. I was muslima before I met my husband, infact i found Islam before I knew any muslims. I AM VERY MUCH AT PEACE.

If i was a nun from the catholic church, my family would say... oh look how pretty you are, but because im muslim and cover , i get, " why you have to wear that scarf, I miss seeing your hair"

I just want my family to respect my decission. InshaAllah one day they will.

I completely understand!!! I'm from the south too,Oklahoma. But from a baptist background. I know that Oh I miss seeing your hair. Gets so old!!! It's nice to see another southern muslimah. :inlove: Welcome to the board!!! All I can say is keep patience. Inshallah and I pray that one day they will come to acceptence and realize we all have to find our own path! May Allah keep your iman strong and keep you on the right path. Ameen! I have been a muslim now for 10 months now alhamdulillah. I wouldn't and couldn't have it any other way!!! My family is starting to come around to me being muslim. They still have a hard time accepting the whole hijab thing but someday inshallah. My father is my biggest supporter, alhamdulillah! Just don't give up. If you ever need to talk please add me in msn. PM for addy. Or you can pm me here!!

SubhanAllah! :)

I admire you're strength. Its much harder for people that convert compared to those that are born Muslim. You have been guided to the right path and you're gonna have to stay firm now. Be patient with your family, they will always love you and you must show them love too, be patient. It takes time but they will eventually accept it, trust me, there have been others that have gone through the same situation as you, there might be some on this forum.

Your reward will be immense InshAllah.

Will be making dua for you, make dua for all of us too.

Salaam.

Ameen!

Such a beautiful story. Don’t forget that Allah Azawajal never places a burden greater than a person can bear. Never forget that, what ever situation you find yourself in know that you have the strength and faith to deal with it, know that Allah Azawajal chose Islam for you and that Allah loves you.

May Allah bless all those in the West that embrace Islam, us Muslims who were born Muslim don’t know hardship, we’ve never had to experience what reverts have to deal with. All those barriers and obstacles.

You’re an inspiration.

Salaam.

I am in the same situation, just I haven't told my family yet. I'm pretty sure they'll react the same way... I'll remember you in my du'a sister:)
