I was quite enthusiastic at first but then i started hating it after a few months. Am like you i get bored easily :embar:
Do you hate your current job so much that you'd quit? Out of the two jobs which one do you think is more ideal for you? I guess the more the job is ideal to you the less you will hate it and even get bored with it.
Yeah you do need to pray istikhara:D

well i'm not working at the moment, but really hated my old job...i enjoyed what i did...but absolutely HATED the people i worked with, and obviously i'll only know about the people once i've been working there for abit
but it does seem like a good job, as in...its a quiet place..so i wont be stressed/rushed of my feet, its across the road from the mosque..and they said i can go and pray there or in my room whenever i need to...its in a very muslim area...i would have a lot of say in how things are run
but it'll be my first 'real' job, and i'll be the only person there with the same role as me, which means there'll be a lot of responsibility on me, and if i dont know something i'll have to use my own judgement and won't have anyone to ask if i need a second opinion - i think this scares me the most, also...it really is the 'easy life' in terms of my profession...which is quite appealing to me...but it might make it more difficult for me to find something when i leave

Hmm.. It sounds quite appealing. Maybe it would be good to have all that responsibilty, you will acquiring lots of skills and experience.
Dunno sis, insha'Allah pray your istikhara and list up all your pros and cons. Insha'Allah you will choose well.

hmm..thing is...i found it via an agency...and he has to pay them 10% of my salary...so hes asked me to accept the job directly through him...so he doesnt have to pay their fees..and then he'll give me a higher salary, and thats so sneaky, and hes got a contract with the agency...so i'm not sure if thats the kinda person i wanna work for

i lurve my job mashallah. this is my fifth year working fulltime at the same place. it has ups and downs and it can be stressful, but i work with children and its very rewarding.
hafsah if ur new place of work has said that u can leave for prayers then it sounds like a good place to work, remember u dont have to stay there for ever. do istikhara and make a list of all the pros and cons of the job. good luck

I dont see the problem, if he tells the agency he has found someone and doesnt need them, if hes got a contract its a bit dishonest though.

alhumdulillah I am greatful, but i hate the system where we have to wake up, go to work, get back home, go to sleep, wake up, go to work .... then at the end of it die... i see it as nothing but a trap to get the less well of people spend all their life working for pennies, and making the well off people richer.
we need to be helping the world, helping build foundations in the world for poor people, helping poor people build a life which does not get them trapped in the same trap we are in, helping build fully paid for accommidations for the elderly and so on. how can we do that when we are trapped in this messed up system where what you make all goes on bills...
if you think about it, we dont need a telephone, we dont need a mobile phone, we dont need tv, we dont need a radio, we dont need satalite tv, we dont need ps1,2,3, xbox360, nintendo wii, where we pay for the electricity which we dont really need to power things which we dont need either...
so basically we are trapped in a world where we get things which we dont need then we pay for bills to power things things which we dont need...
i think its really sad that we are trapped in such a pathetic trap.
but alhumdilillah, one thing i am VERY greatful is that we are not non muslims who work then blow all their money in the pub every single evening... at least we are not THAT trapped in the system, not yet anyway.

thats very true, its so unfortunate that many of us become 'wage slaves'...work ..come home..sleep...same thing everyday
i guess thats why theres always this feeling of being discontent, i'm sure deep down most people want more out of their life, to help people, to do something that really makes a difference
yet most of us won't, we'll just carry on living our money fuelled lives :(

this has been bothering me so much lately, the fact that i could be working all my life just to pay for things i dont need and miss out on doing what we are supposed to be doing like helping people. there must be millions of people around the world who need help, yet we choose to spend money on rubbish we dont need...
how do we get out of this trap which 99.9% of the world seems to be trapped in?

hmmmmmm i agree with hafsah i think you hsould try some community work and get yourself a job in something that you find rewarding l
I clicked yes although i'm not going to work 2moro cos i'm part time. I've been working there for 3 years and love it. If it weren't for my deteriorating health, I'd never have contemplated reducing my hours.
For those of you who want to get onto a more rewarding line of work- it is possible. Some people who run successful businesses are able to leave behind a trusted manager or family member to oversee the place, sometimes for days or weeks at a time allowing the owner to set up projects elsewhere. Another line of work could be an oxfam style project, where poor villagers do weaving/sewing or produce other things according to regional skills and customs. You can offer them a fair price for those things to trade here.
One of my colleagues is trying to set up a school for poor kids in Karachi. Her and her husband have time for it cos' they're semi retired and their children have grown up and are independent mashallah.

Salaam Hafsah,
My Job -
Like:
- The potential to learn - it's like I'm gettin' paid to study.
- Flexibility - I can pray whenever I wanna, take breaks whenever I wanna.
- No one day is the same - Anythin' can happen, just have to adapt.
- Close to Home - Not too far from home - 'bout 20 min drive in traffic.
- Relaxed dress code - Can wear anythin' as long as it has collars (tho I sneak in a few collarless t-shirts.
- Dress Down Fridays - Can wear salwar Kameez which I did last Friday n caused a stir ;)
- 25 Day Holidays.
Dislike:
- Tony - He's a pervert, talks derrogatory ('bout what he wud like to some female workers) work thief, steals company time n resources / hires company car for his own personal use / comes in whenever he pleases / leaves early. No communication / people handlin' skills.
- Pay could be better.

Another reason for likin' my job is that a lady that works here left a big box of muffins - yes Blueberry and chocolate. There were 12 in total.
When I returned to the office the box said 'to ***** from ****'. I was intrigued, opened it up n saw the muffins' n thought awwww.
Not everyday someone shows appreciation for the work you do for them. My big boss sees the box of muffins on my desk and was shocked n asked 'have u been sleepin' with her?' Hmmm. :$
Masha'allah, I only sorted her laptop out a few times - which is my job. But its good to be recognised for achievement, n maybe I won a few brownie points with big boss alhumdulillah.
I think I'm hardworkin'. I like to get the job done. I socialise very lil, only when I needs to be distracted and need a break from work. I suppose it only applies if u enjoy ur work.
Havin' sed that I prolly get bored of work and dislike it, movin' on for different challenges.

Have you thought about joining a group for refugees settling in your country or something like that? I trained as an ESL teacher and if I had lived in one of the bigger cities I could have worked with refugees or new migrants. I am sure that there would be plenty of different roles available in those types of fields.
and yes I agree.. I could never ever imagine working just for the sake of earning money or even for the sake of having a job. helping and serving others is totally the best :)

Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so. The first kind is unpleasant and ill paid; the second is pleasant and highly paid

Ukhti ... i done some social service like helping riot victims ...during this time of rioting i was in the victims camp for about 10 days and it was really so saddenning to see how helpless people are during such times but it does give a sense of fullfilment in serving others people , the poors ,wayfarers , old infirm handicapped ,weak, infirm ,orphans .deseased , hospatilised persons .

I guess it's their job to attract you in that sort of atmosphere. I've always noticed this as well just last month when me and my sis went shopping for my moms b day gift, we were in the cosmetics section checking out some perfumes and this girl told me to try this perfume and she sprayed it on the top of my palm and started to rub her fingers gently over mine while she's smiling at me and i'm like yikes  I had to pull my arm away because it was so uninspected so i just told her politely thank you and that my sister is going to pick one out and i went off to the mens section :smack:. Sure the dress is modest but some of these girls that work there need to act rite, i know it comes with the job but i'm not going to the bay again to by cologne. :nono:

thats a huge generalization... cuz ur in TORONTO.. soooo... ya, i never experienced that in my short time @ cosmetics... but then i was transferred to jewellry&watches.. and wen men came to shop for a watch or sumthing, i would not #1. touch him & #2. lean over the counter. jeez, leaning is so unproffesional. soo ya... and no i havent experienced or noticed this type of behaviour cuz so far i've only had 3 male colleagues and the rest female -- not only that, 2 out of 3 of them are muslim brothers so they were very respectful, the third one being my manager. umm.. i forget where i was going with this  oh ya, so ur wrong. not everyone is a flirt. probably just the sales associates at the Bay in toronto :D
oh ya, i dont think u'd need ur fiancee to strangle that associate. im sure ur sister could hav done just as a good job, cuz she dersves it. i worked there, and i know the rules. but u should hav told her u werent interested. so ya, its UR fault

Cmon it's not that big of a generalization and whether your from Toronto or Ottawa it doesn't make that much of a difference afterall the bay is the bay :hidban: Well maybe you haven't experianced this type of behaviour because you haven't been there long enough and like you've stated 2 out 3 of your colleagues are muslim and even better having a muslim manager makes life so much easier doesn't it???? Well actually if you think about it, it really depends at which location your working at rather than which city :blobblue: . The people that work with you make a big difference in the bay type atmosphere and the bay i happen to go to let's just say your not going to find that many muslim peeps working it's mostly those flirty type college girls and even the older women are like that to  . I know you have to be professional when i worked at the Boss store our manager was very strict especially on me because he was jealous that i was so young and that i'm working at a Hugo Boss store and i was the best sales person there and my colleagues were jealous as well, i told one guy before i left i hope you've learned something from me :rotfl: you should have seen his face :( now where was i yeah the only reason i go to that bay because it's like 2 miutes from my house now that doesn't mean every single bay store in Toronto is like that now does it, thats what you call a generalization  .I'm sure there's a bay in ottawa like the one i go to trust me every city has one of those bay's so i'm not wrong :D . My sister and fight lol she tried to punch me once and got hurt herself :rotfl: but it would have been a nice cat fight indeed :D Omg so your saying it's my fault???? I was just being polite to her and i would never say something like "i'm not interested" when i was actually lol no i'm just kidding thats very rude if you look at it, so ya i think i did the right thing and you know what maybe i should go back to her and give her a quran and tell her to read it and convert her so than she can be my second to be wifey and she can rub all the colonge she wants on my palm, do it the halal way  :icon_offtopic: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rofl1: :inlove: . I know your jealous for the amount of sawab i'm going to get for converting her

waT? did u manage to write all that in one breath?
anywayz, its not rude to tell someone ur not interested in them rubbing stuff on ur hand. and i dont even think that that is proper procedure. they are suppossed to spray the cologne on a little card, wave it in the air and then give it to u to smell. and then they are suppossed to give u a cup with strong coffee beans and u sniff that to get rid of the first fragrance and then u move on to another cologne... <<< that is the correct way of doing it.
and there is nothing to be jealous about if ur going to bring a new muslim into our ummah. in fact, i'd be happy that u are able to use ur sales tactics from Hugo and apply them to convert people :D theres nothing more joyous than a new muslim
but ya, there r flirts everywhere scattered about.
sooo... um ya... now i've been transferred to the children's section (yaay, toys!!!... booo cranky kids) and the only men i come in contact there is the men who r dragging their feet 5 steps behind their wives and dangling 3 kids in both arms... and listening to their wives yell at them for losing the receipt *sigh*... oh well, its better than it was in jewellry cuz ur rite about one thing for sure, the people you work with makes a big difference cuz of this one lady i worked with in jewellry was ALWAYS on my case, everything i did was apparently wrong, but my manager nor my supervisor ever complained about anything i did .. but ya, i told her off yesterday. man it felt good to snap at her :torture: i've been waiting to do that for a loooooong time

lol no i wouldn't be breathing if i wrote that in one breath, plus i'm a fast typer so yeah it may not be rude but i'm just not like that, wouldn't want to hurt someone's feelings :). Yeah i know the proper procedure it's exactly what you've stated but i didn't know about sniffing the strong coffee beans to take the first scent smell away which makes sense but obviously that wasn't my case :D.
Yeah i was just jk about the jealous ting obviously and it would be a great accomplishment if i could really make it happen using my A level tactics. Working at Hugo Boss was my first job ever and i've never had any previous sales experiance so you might ask yourself how did he get a job there  My dad actually knew the Sales Manager of Hugo Boss Canada so he made life real simple for me :D. Sales actually came naturally to me because i talk a lot and i don't stop until the other person like falls a sleep  which forces them to buy the product so i shutup :rotfl:
Converting someone to islam is a totally different story, you need to have a great amount of islamic knowledge a long with knowledge of other religions and most importantly convincing power but there's no harm in trying :hidban:
Wow do you get transfered like every other week back and forth . I mean since you're a fairly new employee. Ahhhh it doesn't matter your in the toys section now, you can relive your childhood experiance watching kids buy the toys you once played with it must be real fun :banan: . I love buying my nephew new toys so i love the toys section :inlove: so cool. I bet you hear a lot of kids crying to their parents "mommy i want this toy, daddy cough out the cash" :rotfl: Well good luck with that
Yeah i'm sure it did feel good to bring out the hammer on her :2hammers: because maybe she was jealous of you or something that you were doing a better job than her and some people are just cranky 24/7 :55:. You can't do anything about it sometimes. As long as your supervisor and manager are happy with you it's all good. Just curious what did you say to her????? :D
Hahaha i remember i told one of my colleagues that the neck ties he wears are to long and he gave me a dirty look and i told him i'm just pulling your leg John NOT!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:. He complained to the manager that i was being unprofessional but i told my manager he needs to learn how to take a joke, it was a fairly new store like a month old and i was bringing in the loot for Hugo Boss and my manager knew that so he's like ok just remember your working at a Boss store and not Gap and i'm like understood.
I did tick off the manager one day because i came in late once and told him i couldn't find parking :rofl1: and he's like thats not going to cut it if you want to continue to work here, i'm like jeez late once and i get told that. I'm like whatever i'm still the best here ;).

- i never dd retail either, this is my first retail job.. before then i did.... "ajdbfsfgbsjdnfbsmdbfsdhfb" [see 2nd last paragraph]...
- great....
- yeh it's almost every other week. and i hope i get transferred again soon cuz i hate working in this dumb department, not only that i dislike my manager - she keeps giving me nite shifts!!! :torture: my manager from jewellry was so understanding about not giving me night shifts. i feel like i wanna quit soon :( but yeh, this kids department definitely brings bak many memories...
- i snapped at her telling her to back off and stay out of my way and i gave her my eye roll-y attitude look, and later that day she was like, "how are you liking the kids department? if u have any problems u can come and talk to me." ...... ya rite
- john sounds unfreindly if he complains to the manager about a little comment... jeez
- im never late for work. only class. actually i missed class today because i spend 45 minutes after work trying to decide which moisturizer to buy (at the Bay) cuz Clinique has a promotion rite now if u spend $26.50+ u get a gift with the purchase .. and the stuff is soooo goooood, u HAV to go and buy one for ur fiancee -- highly reccomended.
- before the Bay i worked for Canadian Blood Services [not retail... duhh]. i lov'd it there but it was a contract for the summer, so inshallah i will go bak this summer -- make du'a!!! the fact that its on my resume makes it look SOOO good, and wen i went for my interview at the Bay, the HRM was only interested in that.
- yup, me happy i got avatar! :inlove:

Wow forgot about this thread, got kind of busy with studying. I’m sure that Valentino cologne smells great that’s why you bought it  . Even if they did rub something on your hand it wouldn’t make a difference because you’re a female and I’m positive the person that helped you out was a female so no big deal, it would be a different story if that person was male. :hidban:
Yeah I know retail is alright I only was in it for three months but yeah I guess you get used to it. :banan:
Well speak to your manager and tell her you can’t do night shift and explain the situation to her hopefully everything will be fine. LoL good job telling her off and her asking you how the kids department is going is just a formality let’s say. Maybe she can’t find anyone to do night shift’s and since your new she’s picking on you. :D
Ok I’ll buy the moisturizer for my fiancé but if she doesn’t like it I’m sending you the bill :D
Yeah working for the Canadian Blood Services really makes your resume look good and inshallah you’ll make it back and do a good job
salaam
trust me she'll like it if she has dry/combination skin. its worth it. ... but yeh bak to the topic...
yes i enjoy my job.
i felt so clever at work y'day....nice to see my brain still works :D
and after a long day i left with a big :D

and there are no pay rises, and employers have the right to speak to your parents if you do not follow the company's code of conduct.

My job is cushy alhamdulillah but it is very boring, and it is a situation where I am stuck in a cycle of work/paying bills because my salary is very low. Inshallah I'll either start the only career which I think I'll enjoy-medicine- by going to school again (this way I can also get married) or make hijrah to a Muslim country and live in the desert or on a mountain. Inshallah.
I just want to encourage brothers and sisters who dislike what they do or where they live to not be afraid of making hijrah or going to study again. Rizq is from Allah and we as Muslims are not slaves to money. Don't be afraid of not being settled.
