GHOST PLANE - THE SECRET HISTORY

with Stephen Grey*

Date: Friday 12th January 2007
Time: 6.45 pm - 9.00 pm
Venue: Main Hall (Ground Floor), 45 Crawford Place, London, W1H 4LP

"Black sites", "ghost planes", "extraordinary rendition". All these
phrases of our age point to a global system of US-run secret bases,
which, outside of any legal controls, have been implicated in
extra-judicial kidnappings and the use of torture, and have been a
key element in the "war on terror". Stephen Grey describes his
investigations into the CIA's covert "rendition" programme – the
transfer of terror suspects to countries in the Middle East that
practice torture. He will discuss how, by uncovering the movement
of the CIA's fleet of planes, he traced the movements of the CIA's
prisoners; how the secret program was established under President
Clinton and expanded dramatically after September 11; how the
thousands of prisoners that were captured but are still missing;
and will discuss Britain's complicity in the "rendition" programme.
Specially discounted copies of Ghost Plane will be available at
the event for £15.

* Stephen Grey is a journalist based in London who writes mainly
