Assalam alaikum
my friend sent me a message about a problem he has, well, i have no idea, so plz help if u know
he said that he visited this site

And got the following:
Open and Unsecure!
23 (Telnet)
__________________
Closed but Unsecure
21 (FTP)
there are other more similar Closed but Unsecure things anyway
how to fix it and what's the problem?

from what i see.. it looks like a port scan and it checks which ports are open and secure!
basically ports are "points of Entry" and can alllow a hacker into your system.
he should ideally have any unwanted ports closed...
like from his.. I doubt he uses telnet,, so should close that port..
FTP.. is closed.. so not to worry much!
other ports like Port 80 is used for web.. which would neeed to be open.. but kept secure with a firewall..

u know whats crazy? I don't have a firewall under 2k pro.
my only defense is the routers built in firewall and WEP.

well thats not bad considering! see if the router allows the use of a NAT.. thats also a degree fo defence! and keep the firmware on the router upgraded! :up:

yep... port sniffer to check which ports are open. there are programs which come with a lot of utilities such as nmap which has port sniffers/scanners and some other stuff. i know for example, cain and abel (thas the program name), has utilities where u can launch arp poisoning and brute force attacks.

I got nmap but it doesn't seem to work, cain and abel i had before but since they're hacktools norton deletes it.

lungi is all around with no cut. dhotti has a cut in the middle so it folds in between the legs. its what we bangalis call "kaas malaun's" like to wear... (kaas malaun = total hindu/authentic hindu)

the lungi on the other hand doesn't cut in between the legs:

also, lungis is what mostly muslims wear (bangladesh and some african states), while dhoti is what hindus prefer.
muslims have the shame so they dont reveal the legs, while the hindus don't really have the shame, so they'll reveal the leg part for the sake of "comfort".

like from his.. I doubt he uses telnet,,so should close that port..

other ports like Port 80 is used for web.. which would neeed to be open.. but kept secure with a firewall..

Bro Belal, this is off topic but can you remember a few months back you suggested i can build NAS with crap PC using Linux??? well, im planning on going ahead with that Idea :D .
Im going to be buying a low spec crappy used pc - Mac G3, 256MB RAM, 6GB (WILL BE UPGRADED TO 350GB OR MORE) I want to use it as a storage server.
Can you give me an idea on which version of Linux I will need? SUSE, Ubuntu, Linspire, Redhat???
