This a work related scenario.
We're gonna be migratin' to to Exchange / Outlook 2003 in the next few months from Lotus Notes. In the buildin' we have a Call Centre. Here many ppl do not use the same PC all the time.
What we don't want is roamin' profiles (if we can avoid it).
Our current set-up with Lotus Notes is that it pulls off the mailfile and settin' details from the individuals Network Share. (We tweaked Notes to look at the Network share instead of the local computer so anybody could use the PC, and get to their own mailfile)
If Outlook 2003 is installed on these PC's, is it possible to tweak Outlook 2003 to look at the network share of whoever is logged in, as oppossed to the .pst files on the local computer.?
Any links to website explainin' how this could be done wud be helpful.

akhi we have outlook here.. and people use diffrent machines soemtimes.. when they log in they will have to configure outlook on that pc.. but taht
but im not fully experienced on that matter..
Salams Bruv...
Just been through a huge migration process.. (30,000 users!) but this was from POP3/Exchange...
now.. exchange will keep the mails on mail boxes.. and when you log-into any computer, and then oprn Outlook 2003, it uses your AD Account to grab your mails... but this then automaitcally donloads all the mails into an OST file! .. note.. only works with outlook 2003!
other option is... get users to use Webmail!>?

Currently with Notes, we have edited the 'notes.ini' file to point to the users Notes settin's which is on the Network Share. So, when anybody logs on to a PC, a script is run givin' them access to certain drives (and mappin' them). In addition when Notes is launched, its configured to point to their Network Share and pull off all the settin's from there. This is because we've tweaked the Notes.ini to look at the Network share and not in the Program Files directory.
We need somethin' similar with Outlook 2003. All machines will have Win XP Pro and Outlook 2003 installed on them.
Some users are required to logon many machines. However, when they kick off Outlook on a machine they've never used before, the installer attempts to kick off the configuration for Outlook 2003 for that user. We are tryin' to prevent this, but enforcin' Outlook to look at the settings in the users Network Share.
By default, Outlook saves the files to C:\Documents and Settings\usersnamel\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. In this directory we find:
- Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings - FAV Files
- Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings - Data File
- Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings - XML Document
- Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings.srs - SRS File
- MS Exchange Settings - FAV File
- MSIN1431.RHC
- outcmd - DAT File
In addition, although I can not see it in Explorer View, there is mail.PST and Archive.pst
Does anybody know if any of the above contain settin's for that particular user? If so, can they be amended to get Outlook to point to the Network Share? Or is there another method to achieve what I am getting at?
The emails will remain on the Exchange Server, and we want the Archive.pst and settin's for each user to be stored on their Network Share, so when a user clicks on Outlook, it does not start the install / confuguration wizard each time they use a PC they've not used before.
I know this is possible as they have achieved the same at my workplace.
I'm not sure of the exact details, but AFAIK there is configuration info stored in the user's registry settings; and this is carried over when you log on to different workstations...

Next question is, do you use AD? Is it from AD where you're gettin' the registery info for the users profile?

bro.. im not understanding you 100%. But you can store your PST file on a network share.. thats not a problem. So long as your making a log-on script to map standard drives for the user to access the PST file.
The technical challenege is the OST file.. you need to put that on a network dirve.. which needs some tinkering!
not sure hoow..!
