Assalaamualaykum,
IHRC calls on all campaigners to contact the Foreign Office or Minsitry of Foreign Affairs in their country and the Russian Embassy to urge for the immediate release of Imam Anton (Abdullah) Stepanenko, imam of Pyatigorsk mosque (Stavropol Territory - Russia).
According to his defense lawyer Svetlana Avdzhayeva, witnesses in the trial of the Imam were tortured into making false allegations that Stepanenko had disseminated ‘extremist’ literature during his sermons. Additional concerns have been raised that the initial complaint made against him came from a man who was receiving treatment for psychiatric problems. (http://www.ihrc.org.uk/show.php?id=2364)
all we have to do is email the letter below to Mr Yury Viktorovich Fedotov at office@rusemblon.org
and to Margaret Beckett (UK Foreign Secretary) at private.office@fco.gov.uk
Note: you might wana save Margaret's address cos of the constant emails we keep sending her - remember Shawshank Redemption - writing letters does prove useful alhamdulillah :)
put in a catchy subject line
add some comments of your own to personalise the letter (please stay rational - try not to cuss or swear as the letters won't reach the intended recipients)
and dont forget to put your name at the bottom of the email
Finally and most importantly, please keep Imam Anton in your dua'as along with all our brothers and sisters illegally and inhumanely detained worldwide.
JazakAllah khair
Dear Ms Beckett/ Mr Fedotov,
Re: Trial of Imam Anton (Abdullah) Stepanenko, of the Pyatigorsk mosque, Stavropol territory, Russian Federation
I am writing to request you to work for the immediate release of Imam Anton (Abdullah) Stepanenko whose trial appears to be unfair and violates the basic rules of justice. There is considerable concern that witnesses in this case were tortured to help manufacture a case of ‘extremism’ against Imam Stepanenko.
Please do your utmost to ensure that this case does not turn into an even bigger miscarriage of justice and that Stepanenko is release immediately
I look forward to hearing from you soon on this urgent matter,
Yours Sincerely,
(Concerned Individual - your name should go here)
