it normally has a copyright sign on the cd, if it does not then it should be ok.

cant you just rip them using window medis player?

Try clicking on Start > My Computer > The CD Drive/Icon > ogg/flac/mp3 (there should be folders there?) then drag and drop the files from the folder onto your desktop?

There might just be a load of files straight in the CD drive an no folders...if they're mp3 files or .wav files you're in luck, just drag and drop them an your sorted insha'Allah

If it's burned as an audio cd then you'll need a cd ripper to take the tracks to your computer, if your computer has nero then you don't need to download a cd ripper, just open nero express/ click on 'more'/ then click on 'save tracks to HD'/ choose the drive that the cd is in, then choose the file format and the path and the tracks then click 'go'

wma isn't bad, lots of my stuff are wma, it's second most compatible after mp3

But if you rip using medai player doesn't it need some license thing before you can play the file?

and wma isnt compatible...windows media player plays it, what else??

its all about open formats like ogg, flac, wav etc

an i dont know i think it might have drm an stuff :S that would be amnother reason why windows media player sucks

Real player/media Player/Winamp/Quinessential/Ashampoo to name a few

ogg might be as good as mp3 but it's not for me, same with flac, and wave's are far too massive.

mp3 players plays two formats always, mp3 and wma, that's why i still prefer wma

bro i could name just as many if not more that DONT play wma (and do play mp3 and/or even ogg vorbis)

fact is, wma sucks

and akhi what mp3 players you got??? i dont know of ANY (except maybe that crappy one m$ are bringing out...cant remember the name) that play wma (by mp3 player i mean the lil things with earphones...ipod, zen creative etc)

AAC is the best size to quality ratio.

WMA is rubbish but WMA pro is not bad.

http://www.maresweb.de/listening-tests/mf-48-1/resultsz2.png

its one of the main reasons I got my sony erricson w810i, so I can play AAC/MP4 files! :D

mp3 was soo bad that it didn't even make it in this chart...

.: Rashid :.
30-12-06, 07:36 PM
personally i only listen to nasheeds and such so the quality isnt of all that much importance (although ogg vorbis trumps wma on quality anyway :D) i care more about it being free and open...wma locks you into micro$oft products or tries to do so (and fails miserably)

but i still use mp3! :p

it uses less battery than aac. but on my pc i have everything encoded as flac or wavpack. im into my lossless perfect quality audio :D

but when you increase the bitrate, things look completely different!

http://www.maresweb.de/listening-tests/mf-128-1/resultsz.png

this time, standard wma is so bad that it doesn't make it in the chart. And mp3 is back in action!

But they're going to be unknown programs *Roll Eyes*

a wma 128 kbps 32 bit stereo can sound just as good as a mp3, and when a wma goes small it can go really small, i've got a 1 minute bad quality nasheed that is just 80kb, if it was a mp3 or ogg or something then it would be much bigger.

i've got one of those old 128 mb mp3 players.

And i can't belive i'm sitting here debating about wma's *Roll Eyes*

wma does end up sounding better than mp3 at 48kbps, but still no where near as good as aac. aac a.k.a (normally contained in) mp4 stands for advanced audio codec. its supposed to be the successor to mp3 and it has had money pumped into it from many big companies.

unknown or not theres just as many if not more ;) and unknown is quite subjective...jus cos you dont know them doesnt mean theyre not popular or good ;) an lets be honest... after the 4 you mentioned that play wma, the rest are gonna be very obscure...but there are many well known media players that play ogg (vlc, xine, mplayer, xmms)

thats all nice an that...but wma is a closed, unspecified, proprietry micro$oft format which they made purely for the purpose of locking people into their own products...therefore it is unethical at the very least

lol kk lets let the sister have her thread back :o

It shouldn't make your laptop slow, however certain versions of nero are only compatible with a particular cd/dvd writer, like for instance i've got nero 5.5, i can use nero 6 or 7 or any of those because they're not meant for old cd writers, they're made for dvd writers.

If you computer has a cd/dvd writer then it usually comes with a nero cd.

What you're needing from that nero is just basically the cd ripping features, which other cd rippers does as well.

.: Rashid :.
31-12-06, 04:44 PM
ukthi i think you should use cdex or the one nami suggested because they are free. nero is trialed so after 30 days it wont work anymore, plus it will keep giving you messages asking them to pay (which are annoying)

youre better off just using a free one...

just click Start > All Programs and check to see if it says nero anywhere?

Then it's not installed on your computer, you can use a different cd ripper if you want if you don't want to look for nero.

the easiest way to rip from cd to mp3 is using windows media player

simply load windows media player
click the "rip" tab at the top and you will see all the tracks in the cd listed
click "tools" "options" and select the "rip music" tab
from this tab, make sure you set the rip settings format dropdown to mp3
click apply and ok
click "rip music"

thats it! :D

this will not give you the best results but its the easiest way to do it.
