India has this new scheme whereby they get like a billion people married at the same time on the same day. Seems like a neat initiative, good for the poor people who find marriage expensive.

I'm not sure if its islamically viable..but its done halal, men and women segregated, get nikah signed, give dowry (a little as it is for the poor), have some munch but for 1/100th of the price..

Bascially, the whole community puts together money and they get everyone hooked up in the same place, same time..its kinda of like mass suicide but without any killings.

LOL at the last line. But a lot of people want their marriage to be a 'special' thing. It's a really important decision and a big part of our lives. I don't think too many people would agree to being #800,503 in a line of people getting married in the same event.

Its' actually for the poor people in 3rd world countries. I'm pretty sure 95% of the sisters in this country would say no to this and I don't blame them. Imagine they got the numbers mixed up and you married the wrong person *shock*

as it is alhamdulilah in Islam the marriage is simple ceremony and for people of understanding not much money is required hence marriage for muslims should not be a problem on account of money alone ...believe me Allah swt provides for our needs always but we are never satisfied .
however people can form a group to get married together though not on mass scale as happens in india .

it'''s a good idea but can't be implemented in places where muslim population is sparse and scattered . but in principal it's really a good idea to conserve the recources of ummah by cutting on the waste and using them for the betterment of ummah .:insha:

well the idea can certainly help poorer section of the society :) but if all muslim give correct jakat and sadaqa inshaallah situation may not come to that state ...:D
