Dear Forum,
It has recently come to light that a group of non-Muslim users on this forum have been messaging a user who has been banned repeatedly, egging him on and encouraging him to make posts attacking Islam and Muslims, praising such posts, and they seem to be making a game of it. The users involved have had all their posts temporarily removed from the forum. The posts still exist but cannot be viewed for the time being.
In response to the numerous melodramatic posts/complaints about bans given to this group and/or their posts disappearing: this is an internet forum, not a country. Just like the vast majority of internet forums on the web, the moderators' decision is final. It is rather ludicrous to run an internet forum as a democracy given that anyone, anywhere in the world can log on and log off as they see fit, and the majority of users on the forum are only here temporarily. Therefore there is no "population" to be represented. Nor is anyone here other than at their own free will, and everyone can leave and never come back if they don't like it.
We usually have a policy of not revealing why people have been banned, in order to protect them from having their indescetions known publically. We see things that go on behind the scenes that other users are not aware of. For example who has alternate IDs, users' rep comments etc. We do not feel that it is fair to make indiscretions public. As such we will continue with our policy of not revealing reasons for bannings to anyone besides the user who was banned.
However this latest incident involving this group we have decided, at the request of other non Muslim members who we suspect are acting on their behalf, to expose what they have done.
What we believe is unique to ummah.com forum compared to other Muslim forums in the dialogue we have with non-Muslim members and we have no intention of changing that. In fact we believe the success of this forum is largely down to this. Non-muslims are welcomed to this forum as much as Muslims, but there are boundries, and these have been crossed.
If any users here don't like the way we run things here you are free to leave at any time and never come back. You don't live here, you can vote with your feet (so to speak) and exercise your freedom of speech anywhere else on the internet, or go and set up your own internet forum and try to run it like a democracy if you so choose. However we will continue to run this forum for the benefit of the Muslim community and for any non Muslims who are here to learn and not cause trouble or attack Islam. We will continue to run the forum by the same rules and that means banning anyone who breaks the rules, and not making their reason for being banned public.
Thank you,
