Assalamualaikum everyone,

Sounds like the chain of transmition of a hadith.
Sorry, I'll make too many mistakes so I won't even bother trying :(

Al Azdiy conveyed it in the translation of Baarih bin Ahmed al harawiy from the narration of Baarih on the authority of Abdullah bin Malik al harawiy on the authority of Sufyan on the authority of Jubayr on the authority of Al-Dhahak (i dnt know if its a name, dhahhaak would mean someone who laughs all the time? allahu alam), on the authority of ibn abbas.
It is marfoo3 (literarlly means raised... this is a type of grading of reliability of hadith i think, i dnt know exactly what it means in that sense? maybe a kind of weakness.) And the khateeb (sermon giver) indicated towards it (it means like made reference to it).
Thats my attempt at translation... apologies for ne mistakes :S
Its a funny kind of Isnad to me, having only the first names eg saying just "sufyan" normally we would see "sufyan bin fulaan" etc...

Masya Allah, thank you very much Anna. Jazakullah Khairin. the only problem is I cant find anything on any Shahih Hadith from Bukhari, Muslim, and any top hadith collectors.

The translation should read; Al-Izdi has brought it in the biography of jaarih b. Ahmad al-hirawi from the narration of jarih b. Abdillah al-hirawi from sufyan from juwaybir from dahhak from ibn abbas elevating it. al-khatib has alluded to it.

Marfu is that hadith which is elevated to the Prophet (saw), (The Prophet said...)

so ibn Abbas elevating it means Ibn Abbas has heard it from Rasoolallah :saw:? and jazakallah khayr for the info on that :) but I think "on the authority of" is better than "from"? When studying isnads we were taught to translate "3an" in that way..
I cant seem to find the hadith that I was asking anywhere on the collection of top hadith scholars like Bukhari, Muslim, Dawood, etc
Marfu' means elevated and can also be a shahih or daeef/weak hadith.
The hadith says something like : whoever reaches the age of 40 but hasnt oevrcome his evil doing with his good deeds then (he should be) ready to go to hell.
Is anyone here familiar with this hadith? It is in the collection of Al-Sakhawi who was a sufi. the sufi part bothers me and the hadith is somewhat unknown to me.
من أتت عليه أربعون سنة ولم يغلب خيرُه شرَه فليتجهز إلى النار.

who was a sufi. the sufi part bothers me and the hadith is somewhat unknown to me.
Err that should be of no concern Sidi since the majority of classical Scholars were Sufi, if we were to reject them for that reason then we would have nothing left to relie upon.

anything with labels bothers me bro. especially when you know what they are doing. uhmmm when you say majority who are the majority sufi scholars?
Do Sufi really pray especially after they reach enlightment?, Do they not worshiping tomb of saints, dance...etc ???last time I check their web sites they dont mention Islam at all. Look at those symbols & pictures , they are more like Christians than Muslims.

Not everyone who calls themselves "Muslims" are Muslims, so why should Sufi's be judged any differently?
Tasawwuf (Sufism) goes hand in hand with sharia, whatever opposes Sharia is not authenthic tasawwuf.
Do Sufi really pray especially after they reach enlightment?,
The fundemental aspect of tasawwuf is ibadat
Do they not worshiping tomb of saints
no they don't and their is no proof that they do...unless you mean Istighata which I clarfied in another post.
As for the websites you mentioned..again whatever opposes Sharia is to be disregarded.
For authenthic sufi's tariqah's they should have a silsilah (chain of isnad) which connects with either Ali (May Allah be Pleased with Him) or Abu Bakr (May Allah be Pleased with Him).
who are the majority sufi scholars?
Just read the books of history and fiqh...the majority of classical scholars were sufi..Imam Ghazalli being one, Ibn Hajar, an-Nawawi, Al-Shafi, Imam Ahmed etc etc etc.
Not everyone who calls themselves "Muslims" are Muslims, so why should Sufi's be judged any differently?
Wusup with labeling bro? did Allah & prophet call us sufi/tasawuf? What are we called again? please dont get into semantics and labels. trust me the kufars love this...then they are saying we dont love freedom, I can be insurgent bla bla bla...you get my drift?
Tasawwuf (Sufism) goes hand in hand with sharia, whatever opposes Sharia is not authenthic tasawwuf.
Im having hard time to find these word in Quran/Hadiths .on.Sufi/Tasawuf. can you be just a muslim without labels?
The fundemental aspect of tasawwuf is ibadat
the fundamental ibadat is ibadat by applying Quran and Sunnah.
no they don't and their is no proof that they do...unless you mean Istighata which I clarfied in another post.
Do you have any good official Sufi site so I can see. the sites I have showned you with just one google try "Sufi" pretty much give me idea what they are and what they are not. certainly they are not practising Islam. if they are , they are very very astray by applying mysticism. I dont remember prophet saw ever taught this.

Only either Ali or Abu Bakr? then I would have to dunk most of my ibadah from Abu Hurairah since he carries gazzilions stuph more hadith than Ali & Abu Bakr combined. he is the major contributor since he was always with prophet SAW most of the time. Second how about on Aisyha acct? How do I know how to treat my wife? to be a good husband & father without her accts? What did prophet do at home? Anyone beside Aeysha or other wives would have known? I dont think so!!
Just read the books of history and fiqh...the majority of classical scholars were sufi..Imam Ghazalli being one, Ibn Hajar, an-Nawawi, Al-Shafi, Imam Ahmed etc etc etc.
-gazhali yes, not a fan of him.
-Ibn Hajar, an-Nawawi, Al-Shafi, Imam Ahmed . they never claimed to be sufi. please get your story straight.

Ahl as-Sunnah wal Juma is also a label yet no one is critical of this title.
the fundamental ibadat is ibadat by applying Quran and Sunnah.
and this is what Sufi's do...extra nalf salah, tahajjud, dhikr etc..

You either misunderstand my statement or you do so intentionally Allahu Alam.
The Ulema state that Abu Bakr (May Allah be Pleased with Him) was the first spiritual inheritor of the Prophet (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him).
Imam Ahmed (Rahimullah) narrates in his Musnad with a Sahih Isnad
"Abu Bakr does not surpass you for fasting much or praying, but because of a secret that took root in his heart."
Imam Suyuti (Raimullah) states in his al-hawi li-l-Fatawa and Imam Bukhari (Rahimullah) in his Sahih;
"Whatever Allah poured into my breast I have poured into the breast of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq."
"Allah has expanded my breast for what He has expanded the breast of Abu Bakr and Umar to receive."
This knowlodge is only possessed by the Prophets and their inheritors. Ali (May Allah be Pleased with Him) states; "They are the fewest in number, the greatest in rank in the sight of God. By them does God protect His creation. They are His proof on earth, until they bequeath it to their likes, and plant it firmly in their hearts. By them knowledge has taken by assault the reality of things, so that they found easy what those given to comfort found hard, and found intimacy in what the ignorant found desolate. They accompanied the world with bodies whose spirits were attached to the Highest Regard. They are the vicegerents of Allah, the Exalted, in His land. How one yearns, how one yearns to see them!"

lol are you serious have u read the lives of these men and how they praised the Sufi's...Imam Nawawi's wird alone should be proof of his devotion to tasawwuf. Read Imam Nawawi's book al Bustan Al Arifin
Imam Hanbal: "Sufis are like a fountain of knowledge, they recite the remembrance of God in their hearts. They have the most spiritual power."
Imam Saffarani quotes Imam Ahmed ibn Hanbal saying this more then 7 times in his books. (note the noble Imam represents the mu`tamad opinion within the madhab and is called Shaykh al-Islam).
Imam Malik (Rahimullah) said; "man tasawaffa wa lam yatafaqa faqad tazandaqa, wa man tafaqaha wa lam yatasawaf faqad tafasaq, wa man tasawaffa wa tafaqaha faqad tahaqaq."
which basically means; " Whoever studied Tasawwuf without Fiqh is a heretic, and whoever studied Fiqh without Tasawwuf is corrupted, and whoever studied Tasawwuf and Fiqh will find the Truth and Reality of Islam."
Imam Ibn Qayyim, the student of shaikh Ibn Taymiyya and Imam of the Hanbalis said in his Madarij about the Sufi's:
بها يدرك التصوف والتصوف : زاوية من زوايا السلوك الحقيقي وتزكية النفس وتهذيبها لتستعد لسيرها إلى صحبة الرفيق الأعلى ومعية من تحبه فإن المرء مع من أحب كما قال سمنون : ذهب المحبون بشرف الدنيا والآخرة فإن المرء مع من أحب والله أعلم

Ibn Hajar as in the Sheik who wrote Fath al-Bari, and Al-Shafi, as in Imam ash-Shafi? I always hear salafis talking bad about sufis, and these Shuyookh are sufis? Wow, that's new to me ;) .

noone should give any label, just because we follow the sunnah of prophet we are sunni. Allah & prophet made it clear & gave stern warnings on sects.
and this is what Sufi's do...extra nalf salah, tahajjud, dhikr etc..
what is nalf salah? Tahajudd, dhirkr are not something new. why gave any more weight by adding extra label? are you saying only Sufi does this? what a joke.

preserve him like mummy? I think he only does that to Fira'un.
