[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 28, Number 3883]

"Narrated Abu Darda': I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) say: If any of you is suffering from anything or his brother is suffering, he should say: Our Lord is Allah Who is in the heaven, holy is Thy name, Thy command reigns supreme in the heaven and the earth, as Thy mercy in the heaven, make Thy mercy in the earth; forgive us our sins, and our errors; Thou art the Lord of good men; send down mercy from Thy mercy, and remedy, and remedy from Thy remedy on this pain so that it is healed up

I havent heard of this Hadith myself before. Where did you see it if i may ask?????

Sunan Abu Dawud is one of the 6 Collections of Hadith used traditionally.
Abu Darda Is a highly reliable narrator though. But we gotta look at the chain of narration too.

But the scholars of hadith use various tools to classify the authenticty of hadith. I.e. youd have to ask a Muhaddith. So even though the chain of narration may be flawless. There could be something else that is missing.

Bro.. just a comment... the hadith has to be classified as such officially according to the ulema .

e.g. Weak, Very weak, unreliable, Good, Very Good, Authentic.

They use a sysyemmatic method - arabic words to classify them ( not the above english words i have listed).

That Site only lists hadith but doesnt grade their authencity from a Known and reputable Muhaddith.

So technically i dont think we can comment on the degree of its "authencity".

I just found it as part of a discussion on the similarities in Islam and Christianity.. (it is meant to be a discussion from an Islamic perspective). They used this hadith and interestingly the words are almost identical to the prayer Jesus/Isa taught us to pray..

That is why I wondered it's authenticity

and thanks Nami.. sincerely

no no no iam not saying SUnan Abu Dawaud is not authentic .. no way. Infact it is regarded as an "authentic" colection 3rd to Muslim and Bukhari Hadith collections.

Iam just saying Muhaddith aid us in helping to grade and comment on hadith..

reports on the authenticity of this hadith

Abu Dawood : didn't say anything about it (but later said in a message to Makkah people that when he choose not to say anything about a hadith then it mean he approve its authenticity)
Ibn Habaan : not authentic because in its isnad (chain of narrators) there is a person who was known to narrate false hadiths
Ibn Uday : same as above
