who do u think the muslim youth look up 2 2day? do we have any good role models? is it possible for us to look up to those we hav never met before, such as the prophet muhammad sws?

i think the problem is a lot of the youth tend to look up to rap artists like 2pac and whatnot. why do u think this is? i mean 2pac certainly isnt some1 id luk up 2. what about others who sing about, drugs, violence...? why is it that the youth find this so cool? does this mean we are missing out on propa role models?

would b nyc 2 hear ur views

there is a good talk on this called I want to be Abu Bakr by Muhammad al shareef, its on kalamullah.com, it made me cry cs i was in emotional mood but its really worth listening!

definately the best role models for us ARE those who we did not meet, ie rasoolallah :saw: and his sahaba radhiallahu anhum... and those mentioned in quran like mariam, aasiya... :)

some ppl do take those rappers as a role model, but i think as ppl learn properly about islam they ditch that in favour of the sahabas. there are role models n personalities for everyone masha allah, for the soft personality and for the strong n harsh personality, for the men, for the women, for the children... subhanallah :)

hmmm well it is best to take the sahabas and anbiyaa cos they are much better than anyone here today, but if u want someone from 2day ppl can look to their parents if they are good people... friends whom are practising, maybe some scholars etc? or those ppl imprisoned for their religion of course we admire them aswell for their strength of imaan like babar ahmed etc..
but is best 2 take those ppl who we are assured of their status, like the sahaba many of them assured jannah and we know it... but ppl now, we do not know their status with Allah for 100% sure in the way we know for sahabas. Also those ppl today who are good and who we look up to, i think themselves wd say it is best for us to take sahabas n rasoolallah :saw:

What an important topic! But I think that if the role models are not living in the present day does not disqualify them. The stories of the sahabah always send chills through me. I've heard them since I was a child and there is really no need to look outside Islam for exemplary personalities. As long as parents keep telling their children "Umar brought half of everything he owned and then Abu Bakr came and he brought everything and the others asked him what he left behind..." or the sahabah who first lost his right arm then his left and continued to fight... I think that is more than enough. Role models today should include people like Amir Khattab or Shamil Basayev perhaps who give up everything.

Other ideas?

asalamu alaikum

indeed the ultimate role models r prophet pbuh, the prophets a.s and the sahaba.

but we live, especially in the west, where there is a lot of competition today. from what i see, bollywood, hollywood, tv, sport and music stars have taken the mantle of role models.

i am sure there are role models from the amongst the muslims, but they do not reach out to the muslims like the competition does.

I think because the muslims are humble and not searching for fame...
but still for example some became well known for their good skills eg Quran reciting, so for that we could make the qaris our role model and we try 2 imitate their style n try to race in learning quran insha allah... this can be like instead of the non muslims people how they try 2 copy music and things.
so a good example is meshary el efasi masha allah, we can take him as a role model for his recitation :)

Tahiyah, I'm very sorry to hear of your brother's death.

I remember how difficult it was when my big brother died.

I often think that the love we have for siblings is the truest, simplest kind of love. It's so different from the love we feel for parents, spouses, children, and friends.

Please know that he was certainly aware that he was fortunate to have a little sister like you.

Because you seem to have such a good and earnest heart, he certainly must have been a remarkable gentleman to have earned your respect.

May his memory be always for blessing.

sadly, we too often realize how remarkable our loved ones truly are, after we lose them...

Allah says the Truth:)
33[21] Indeed in the Messenger of Allâh (Muhammad (peace be upon him)) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the Meeting with) Allâh and the Last Day, and remembers Allâh much.
