Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
"As soon as a brother or sister is arrested in this ill-conceived War
on Terror there is usually a scramble for headlines and pictures
before the ugly media circus moves on to its next target. Amid all
the chaos we often overlook the needs of those most affected in
so-called terror raids."
Yvonne Ridley - Hhugs Patron
Hhugs is a charity set up in September 2004 in response to the
increasing number of arrests across the country. Since 9/11, over 600
arrests have been made under the Terrorism Act 2000, and as a result,
600 homes have gone through complete turmoil, devastated by the arrest
of their family member, and confused by what to do next. Families are
left without a breadwinner, a husband, a father, a son, a loved one.
For many of these families, daily tasks have become difficult, they
are struggling to make ends meet and transport to visit their loved
ones is infrequent. On top of this, their community has shunned them,
so they experience great loneliness and lack any emotional support.
Hhugs helps families with day-to-day household help, emotional
support, childcare, transport, finances, children's Islamic School
fees, dealing with the media, and other forms of necessary help.
Prisoner of the Month
Name: A.K
Marital Status: Married, 3 children
Date of Arrest: September 2006
Currently in Belmarsh
Reverted to Islam 3 and a half years ago
Impact from arrest on family: The family has no form of transport
available at home, therefore they have problems with day to day tasks,
e.g. shopping.
The family has not yet been able to meet A.K since his arrest either.
QUOTE brother A.K:
"Allah has put me here to teach me Islam. I was going to go to Egypt
study - but Allah has put me in Belmarsh to study instead and now and
on top of that, insha Allah, my duas are stronger and on top of that,
this is the path of the Prophet's (AS) - who were put in prison for no
other reason, except that they called people to worship One God.
Oh Allah, make me desire what You have decreed for me and make me
content with it, because You know what's good for me - better than I
know what's good for me" (Ameen)
To send letters to brother A.K - please post to 'Cage Prisoners', PO
Box 45798, London, SW16 4XS - with a self addressed envelope if you
wish brother A.K to reply to you. Letters will then be passed on to
the brother insha Allah.
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said
"Whoever relieves a believer of distress in this world, Allah will
relieve him of some of the distress of the Day of Resurrection.
Whoever makes things easy for those who are in difficulty, Allah will
make things easy for him in this world and in the next. Whoever
conceals (the faults of) a Muslim in this world, Allah will conceal
him (his faults) in this world and in the Hereafter. Allah will help
the slave so long as the slave helps his brother." [Muslim]
