A'salamualaykum,

Not your usual as cuss them bla bla but more wanting to find out what is it with women and driving..

I took my sister out to teach her how to drive today, she's taken a few lessons and told me she can do highway and all sorts. So we go to a quite car park and I let her drive...sits in the drivers seat and then she goes "so what do I do?", so I'm like *smacks head*

masha'Allah she drove ok and stuff just forward a few meteres and reverse but me wanted to know, what is it with some women and driving that makes it hard for them? Is it like fear or just maybe that isn't their natural place kinda of thing.

I don't know how I'm going teach my wife insha'Allah *torture emoticon*

loool, Aaaww, it was nice of you to take her, what a nice brother you are..:)

If she is very new to driving then it may be lack of confidence and nerves...
we women are naturals at driving..:D:

Insha'Allah soon ur sister will become a professional and probably even be a better driver that you are..:p

you'll be suprised.

I reckon maybe yes lack of confidence and nerves.
But depends from woman to woman, some are like bold and confident n take challenges very easily.
Me, I think I will b like ur sis lol. I have not even started lessons yet. I do really want to tho, i would prefer if a family member will teach me but i cnt find someone for the job cos like we dnt even hav a car in our house... so prob hav 2 get an instructor sometime, like mayb the summer.
it would b very useful 2 have a car n b able 2 go here n there in it :D

Women aren't as good with spatial awareness...so things like reverse parking and map reading can become problems.

Lack of confidence and nerves too. But over-time wth familiarity, its fine

Sis Anna, I think you should go ahead with driving lessons, because driving theory and practical tests are becoming harder/stricter and they are making it even harder from January.

Maybe was nerves but like I was trying not to intimidate her, I didn't even put the seatbelt on so she feels comfortable thinking I have confidence in her (but inside I was scared for my life and repeating the shahadah)

insha'Allah soon she will but I'm not really trying to make her a good driver, more just pass her test and able to drive. How are the tests becoming harder?

no man, see its like this, my lil and older bro were alwasy messing around with cars. they could read the auto trader as soon as they leanred their ABC. men are encouarged to be over enthused about cars since it reinforces their masculinity.

Come on bro teach her!... we know you will!...

I don't know what percentage of women is worse than men at driving.
In my case, I haven't driven in AGES, because i'm not confident and i am "afraid of the road", of hurting people and being hurt. Conversely I LOVE the car itself. I should drive somewhere desert;)

I think that i am hopeless at reading maps*/remembering where places are because I don't drive, if i did i would improve that.

ahh you just asked about the worst experieces and the most toughest exams I ever took in my life. Driving for me was such a hard task that in the end I had decided to leave it all when finally I passed after trying for the 8th time.....I have never failed in anything that much so far,but ahh life teaches you.
For me it was nerves, I am very much of a dreamer I imagine the worst scenarios and while driving because of that my driving was too cautious and slow. This was my main reason for failing again and again.NOw I have the license but still dont drive....am thinking of buying a small car just for start....
I think women are too cautious that is why they dont drive well, and when we panic we just leave everything and hope we will land somewhere safe

i remember the 1st day when i was teaching my Mum, i was surprised she was doing good farward n backward, i decided to teach her how to circyle around, told her how to do it, her expresions were fine, so i leted her go

as soon as she turned the wheel she didnt return it back, n we were about smash into sum1s bedroom :S but Allah helped n i pulled the handbreaks, i got mad at her, n told her i wont teach u again n did so :embar:

once i was out of city for few months, came back home n my mom decided to serve me sum good stuff n asked me to go with her to market, i agreed to get free n delisious food :D
i went to the shop came back n was surprised she was siting in the driving seat n car was ready go back home parked front of the shop and thats not where i parked it, i came surprised n sat with her n i was thinking whats going on, i didnt ask ne thing n she kept on driving, she was dooing good n i was enjoying it n i had kinda unbeliveable feelings but as soon as she was about to park the car front of our apartment she pushed accelerator instead of breaks  that was worst scene, there was a poll front of us,i turned the wheel to save it n there was a neighbours car parked front left of the poll but Allah saved us from smashing pulling handbreaks n turning the wheel helped
that was the last time i think iv sit with her n never did it again, now its been few years, she is driving, she drives almost everyday but im too scared to sit with her, when ever iv to go with her i dirve :D

btw she has smashed dad's car recently few months back into that same poll n she blamed my sister for that who happen to b siting with her in front seat for not tellin her about that Poll  (that poll is there since ages n she is parking beside it from years) :D

oops sorry for this big post, i was kinda bored so decided to share my experiance with Mum(women) driving :)

well done for speaking the truth.

Women should just sit on the back seat with the little kids - its the best way :p

I was a bit unsure about where to go on Motorway before but now alhamdulillah u just seem to know which way to go. The signposts help (obviously) but even on A roads it just seems that one direction is the right way to go.

as salamu alaikum,

I dont know if you're a brother or not but to be honest even some men are bad drivers (from my personal experience again lol). Once a woman tried to run me off the road and cause an accident and TWICE men tried to run me off the road but alhamdulillah my quick reaction saved me from these accidents. im navigationallay and spatially challenged. im surprised i still have my licence. :D

A genuine tip sis, try and remember the A/B route numbered roads instead of the road names(A104/A13 etc), as they will be clearly sign posted(you know dem big uns), and they will stay consistant where as the road names will keep on changing:up:

Now you know our secret to navigational superiority:D

Sisters, try to learn how to drive and get the licence inshaallah. overcome the fear, you'll get the confidence inshaallah, so, when people you love need you, like your parents, husband and kids are sick you can drive them to the clinic, your husband is too busy to drive the kids to school then you can drive them inshaAllah.

no man, see its like this, my lil and older bro were alwasy messing around with cars. they could read the auto trader as soon as they leanred their ABC. men are encouarged to be over enthused about cars since it reinforces their masculinity.

as long as a woman can get from A to B (in style) we dont really mind what we're sittin in :D

Not in my house...my oldest boys like the flashy cars but couldn't change a spark plug if their life depended on it. Two of my daughters OTOH used to almost get in fist fights over who got to help dad work on the car. :D

hmmm. this bad women driving thing must be a Brit thing. i dont think its like that here in the US ( ;) )..

i dont realize women not having enough confidence to drive. i 've taught many sisters and other women to drive because their husbands didnt have the patience.

here in the US a male's car insurance use to be higher than a womans, but not anymore. the male was considered more reckless.

hmm, i dont think anything about my own driving scares me.. most people here in the US are convinced that they are the BEST driver anyhow.

what scares me is those who drive drunk or high...teens racing at night, partying. that worries me....
