Most of the screenshots that Bungie shows us is actual gameplay. I think this one is actual gameplay also.

actually brotha, kal-el is right on this one. its all CGI. the gameplay elements are taken from the actual game, however all graphics is done is CGI. it's been confirmed from a few sites aswell as bungie themselves. however they all note that while the graphics may be CGI, the actual graphics are very close to this and the gameplay itself is very similar to it. So its not a total dissappointment. :coolbro:

CGI- Computer Graphics Imaging, basically its not in game material. its all done via software just for looks. shrek for example is CGI. same with all the other pixar movies. usually in games, u get to see cutscenes where the cutscenes look nothing like the actual game. Take for example in final fantasy 7/8/9 (the game). notice how the cutscenes look amazing, but thats not the actual game. and wahtever you see on screen via CGI, is just a movie. that means, all those nice graphics werent made on the system, meaning what you see on screen isn't what that system can do, rather its what the big supercomputers rendered.

lol i took a guess in mind what CGI means...and i actually guessed Computer Graphics Imaging roflrofl.....

lol the cutscenes in FF 7/8/9 were awesome...but i hated the in-game graphics so much that i didn't even play it....just told my friend to show me the cutscenes.

Never understood why people are so crazy for that game. It's an okay shooting game - but doesn't exactly bring anything new or better than what's been before.

I like the idea of games having DOF, though. I wonder if that's going to be common. Hey, maybe it already is, but I don't know it yet :p

Halo is the best of the best of the best. People are crazy after it for a reason. And when Halo 3 comes out it shall be the biggest game release in history. The gameplay is just too good in this game, its popular mostly for its multiplayer.

nope, nothing totally. but then again, which game in the last 10 years has?

games only get prettier and what not. I think it was red faction which brought something new to FPS games where you could blow anything in order to make an exit. if you were stuck in a certain area, you could blow a hole in the wall and bounce. duke nukem 3d was one of the first successful mutliplayer games. before duke nukem 3d, multiplayer deathmatches were usually in small numbers, but DN3d was the first to offer what was it, 16 player matches? that was tight.

quake brought 3d to fps. bar none. wolfenstein (the original one) defined fps, doom built upon it, but quake brought it all to 3d. Doom 3 is revolutionary in a way. it's so well engineered, it looks like a movie. the level of attention given to sound in doom3 is phenomenal. it surpasses anything else from what i read awhile back.

but as for halo...it doesn't bring anything new. what is sweet about halo is 2 things. the biggest thing is how you can just kill an enemy and take his weapon which is so amazing. but i think this was done in tribes long before halo? second thing about halo is the story. oh man... i still remember playing it for the first time and when the flood just came out... i was totally caught off guard. it was so unexpected and it was odd that NO ONE ever mentioned it on any site. it was like a little secret.

so yeah, those things made halo stand on its own even if it wasn't anything new, it just went so well. oh and ofcourse, what really made halo shine is how well a fps played so well on a console. microsoft spent a crapload of money in research on how to make fps games play well on a console. if you look at playstation1/2/3, fps's play unnaturally. that control set up is very uncomfortable for fps, specially if someone comes from a keyboard and mice (which is the best btw). but microsoft ingeniously put one of the analog stick higher than the other which made the set up much more ergonomic. because of that, controlling the character in the heat of battle was alot simpler and made a better gameplay.

bottom line though, play halo. play it through, you might like it. pay attention to blood gulch on capture the flag. it's hella fun as i remember it.

Have you read the books? Man they are motion picture material! Seriusly those books were so great...and sad too. **snifflle**

OH yeah! Didn't you just feel the adrenaline pumping when you get three guys in your hog and three of your other teamsmates got in another hog and you just raid the crap out of their base. Get their flag, and drive back as fast as possible while getting shot at by their whole team!!!

(But now I use another tactic- I drop in from a banshee; from above, and I have my teammates circling the nme base in worthogs.)

second thing about halo is the story. oh man... i still remember playing it for the first time and when the flood just came out... i was totally caught off guard. it was so unexpected and it was odd that NO ONE ever mentioned it on any site. it was like a little secret. - Which you might just have spoiled for me :D I played until I came to some big complex in a jungle, and I got in to some thing that sucked me upwards - then the game closed itself and I was back in windows >:(

I wasn't particularly impressed by the story that far, though. The only game I ever really enjoyed the story of was last express - which had a story on par with your average Indiana Jones movie.

so yeah, those things made halo stand on its own even if it wasn't anything new, it just went so well. oh and ofcourse, what really made halo shine is how well a fps played so well on a console. - Only FPS I ever played long on a console was goldeneye on the N64. It worked quite well.

US churches lure young with Halo 3 services

By Catherine Elsworth in Los Angeles
08/10/2007

Churches across the United States are under fire for using the ultra-violent video game Halo 3 to attract younger members to their congregations.

Even some evangelical churches known for taking a hard line on violent entertainment have been hosting sessions where boys come to play Microsoft's incredibly popular futuristic "space epic" in which an alien religious group is bent on destroying the Earth, and much of the galaxy.

The game, which came out two weeks ago and has already made more than 300 million dollars in sales, can only be bought by over-17s and is rated 'M' for its mature content. It features a vast array of weaponry which players use to annihilate opponents.

Pastors and church leaders defend their use of the game saying it is an effective way of connecting with boys and young men, who are notoriously hard to reach. Once they are in the church setting, ministers can offer them Christian messages after playing the game.

"We want to make it hard for teenagers to go to hell," wrote Gregg Barbour, youth minister of Colorado Community Church near Denver, in a letter to parents.

But critics are worried about the message implicit in allowing boys as young as 12 to play a potentially corrupting adult video game.

"If you want to connect with young teenage boys and drag them into church, free alcohol and pornographic movies would do it," James Tonkowich, president of the non-profit Institute on Religion and Democracy, told the New York Times. "My own take is you can do better than that."

Daniel Heimbach, a professor of Christian ethics at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, agreed. "To justify whatever killing is involved by saying that it's just pixels involved is an illusion," he told the paper.

Hundreds of churches, however, are using the game and finding it a highly effective tool. The Colorado-based Dare 2 Share Ministry recently sent e-mail messages to 50,000 young people about how to reflect on and discuss their faith using themes from the game.

John Robison, associate pastor of one 300-member church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, told the New York Times he managed to allay parents' fears about the game. "We explain we're using it as a tool to be relatable and relevant, and most people get over it pretty quick."

Halo... meh. I am waiting for Spore. Although, once I play through the C&C Tiberium series, I am going out to buy C&C 3. Oh and then their is StarCraft II coming out at sometime, and along with those, finish up Neverwinter Nights 2.

I don't get first person shooters.
